They break down like this: 00/195/07 0267
00 The first two digits are for internal use: ignore.
195 The next three digits indicate the day it was produced, in this case the 195th day of the year, which is July 14.
07 The next two digits are the last two digits of the year, in this case 2007.
0267 The last four digits show which particular kit of that batch this kit is: in this case, the 267th kit out of about 600.

Thanks for the explaination. What does the code data printed on the juice bags mean? And is there a correlation between the box and the bag inside.?

Thanks

Thunderhill

Wade,

Is 600 a typical run for these kits? I just purchased (started) a Pinot Noir that was made on Dec 11th of 2009, it was number 309.

I couldnt tell you on that 1. I would say thats a little low though in my opinion.

Date Codes for WineXpert Kits

I was wondering if one can infer the vintage of a wine by the date code. For example, I have a Estate Series Cab that has a date code 271 of 2009. That would be September 28th of 2009, which seems a little early for a 2009 vintage. They may have produced it on that date using 2008 grapes. What do you think?

The juices these companies use are processed in a way as to keep them in bulk for possibly many years. I think the only kits that are truly from fresh grapes of that year are the limited editions and the Hightail kits from RJS which arent available to many people not close enough to Canada.

I apologize if this should go in the Beginners' forum, but I just bought a WineXpert Island Mist kit, and I can't find a date code in the xx/xxx/xx xxxx format. There's a six digit number in bold under the Sangria Zinfandel name that's 004074. Below that is a 13 digit number: 20715 3325 0190. And then there's a bar coded number 29181. Should I be looking somewhere else on this package?

20th day of the 7th month of 2015 is your expiration date. They changed some.

Look to me like WE has gone with the Vineco format.

20715 - batch number
3325 - manufacturing date, ie day 325 in 2013
0190 - item number in batch

Steve

The rest of the numbers are batch or scan codes which typically dont mean anything to us and they dont usually tell you when they were made with the exception of some kits are 2 years expiration and some 1 and etc so if you find out what amount of time that particular kit has then subtract that from its expiration and that tell you when it was made.

Reply from Winexpert

I had the same question about the difference in their date codes.
So, I emailed winexpert customer service and below is their reply.

Example 20123 3343 0240 -

The first 20123 is the work order

The next 3 is the year 2013

343 is the date going by the Julien Calendar or the perpetual calendar so it’s the 343th day of the year which is December 9

0240 is the batch kit # this one is the 240 kit out of a batch of about 600 kits.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Cpfan, looks like you got it right.

I just bought my first kit last evening. I am excited to get my feet wet making my own wine.

I bought a Winexpert Island Mist Raspberry Dragonfruit Shiraz with a code of 22667 4057 0259. I was happy to see that this means that my kit was assembled in 2014. I was afraid that it was an older package.

Thanks for providing this info.

I am confused. How do I determine the mfg date? Also I thought this decoded to manufacture date, not expiration date?

Here's what I have, which looks like yet another format....

Winexpert kit

Label:

World Vineyard
Chilean Malbec
00315690
7 110 15 0070 Barcode

Or, with the barcode in pink magenta:
World Vineyard
Chilean Malbec
00315690
7 110 15 0070
6 29181 00311 4

As I understand it, the kit manufacture date is the 110th day of 2015 and it was the 70th kit made in that batch. I understand that kits are generally considered to be good for a year, at which time some sellers reduce the price to move them out.

BTW, I've made kits over a year old and had no issues and saved $20 - $50 doing it.

The Eclipse line is now using this code. I got a Stag's Leap Merlot with the code I'm accustomed to
3 265 16 0045
which I know is 265th day of 2016, (near the limit of date that I will buy)
and a Lodi Ranch 11 Cabernet Sauvignon with what is new to me
43540 6308 0022
which is the 308th day of 2016? Much better.
