i don't have near the experience of most of the people on here. i guess that will make it even more impressive when i win!! I'm in! i agree with the secondary prize for best label.
agreed i used the skittles recipe, and used a whole large bag of starburst, i did end up adding about a half cup of sugar to get my sg to around 1.08 otherwise it looks good i should be transferring mine this weekend if i find time.
i haven't made this but beings that it's a lower alcohol wine i would think that once open you would have to drink it within a few days. maybe i'm wrong, can anyone else answer this?
I worried too early about this one, the yeast took off in 24 hours and had enough steam to fill the air lock, i've since replaced it with some mesh and a rubber band i'll let that go for a few days till the ferment subsides.
It's weird it's not a wax layer. It's more like a fruit cap of some sort but I'm not seeing any activity 24 hours in. Has anyone else had trouble getting the starburst batch going?
started the starburst wine yesterday, i thought i had taken care of all of the wax by freezing it, but i went downstairs this morning to find the top 1/4 of my primary full of a waxy looking substance. I'll take a picture when i get home.
For those that have made the starburst wine did you also freeze after the boil to eliminate a wax layer? I've done the skittles and it worked well but I'm getting ready to try a v-day starburst gallon batch
I've used the screw top wine bottles before with no leak problems, and have used champagne bottles to bottle beer. i think you can use whatever you're comfortable with.
holy crap!! that's aging a long time! the labels turned out great. my personal fave would be the ones with the three girls head silhouettes. how often did you check these wines? just to fill the airlock? I started one for my daughter 3 months ago when she was born. my oldest daughter is 4 now...
