    Chateau Michaelena Vineyard

    Last year my nebbiolo had budbreak April 1 this year April 21 . I've also spent two nights this year building fires in the vineyard fighting off the frost. Got to love the continental climate.

    I had budbreak April first last year. A foot of snow and coldest march I can remember. Growing grapes in missouri is a challenge, maybe delayed budbreak will eliminate problem of late freeze. Got to look on the bright side.

    Usually you find rootstock that's compatible with your soil , climate and varietal . I would go to Vintage Vines website they will have information on most rootstocks.

    Two things, I like norton but it has a medicinal taste and has a high ph wich makes it tough to make good wine.     I would buy some norton wines try them not everyone's cup of tea. Easy to grow hard to make good wine . Virginia depending where you are is good for European grapes. Much more simple to make good wine. Stay diligent with your spray routine.
