    Vineyard Rodent Control

there’s likely an “allowable” amount. The safety of the end-product is what’s important. Quality is important too, but making people sick is bad for business.

    Ph calibration solutions

That’s what I use… maybe even the same brand. I bought a graduated cylinder for accurate measurements and mix them in some plastic lab bottles.

Marquette, Petite Pearl, and Verona… Oh My!

Well I finally got this one in the bottle (for the second time)! I bottled it last year after 11 months in the carboy and got the now famous (on WMT) purple volcano. After another year in bulk I finally got around to bottling it again. 41 bottles of 2022 northern red blend and 21 bottles of...

    Fruit fly larvae on blackberries

I think it’s an osmotic pressure thing. The high sugar content draws liquid out of the blackberries.

Need help with itasca grape wine making

My Brianna were like that too. But they were picked at 18 Brix to save them from the birds. I only had one vine. I froze them so hopefully that helps extract juice.

Local vineyard going to waste, picture here

where’s the fun in that? Pity about the vineyard though. Looks to me like multiple diseases have infected the vines and grapes. Is the winery still open? I would imagine that, like most small businesses, they have a pretty high failure rate.

    New to The Group

If you take pictures of the leaves you can send them to Michigan university extension for ID. I’m sure they have a viticulture program. Yooper or Troll?

    New Maryland Vineyard

😮 that is crazy. And infuriating 🤬. Sounds like a fence is the right call. I will be installing a 7 foot fence with woven wire on the bottom four feet to deter raccoons and turkeys. Then high tensile wire above that. I plan on putting offset bars on the top to hold an additional wire out...

I use TWC so I went with the full bee netting.

I checked my Marquette today… tested six grapes and they ranged from 21.0 to 23.8 Brix. The average was 22.1.
