Mold damaged grapes: crush or toss?

I appreciate @Hazelemere comment re: making rose out of marginal grapes. I am at a cross roads on my Zin. I thinned out clusters with obvious mildew or were way behind in development. Do I make more rose than I know we wouldn’t consume for a long time or roll the dice, make a red and possibly...

    Zinfandel syrah blend

Great timing! I have a little over 100 vines of Zin and Syrah combined. I’m expecting around 15 gallons each. I made a rose out of the Zin and the Syrah went into a GSM blend. I was thinking Zin rose again and the Syrah as a stand alone red. I’m not a fan of a red spicy Zin, but perhaps...

    I have a 20L (5.3 gallon) and a few 30L (7.9 gallon), all from craigslist cheap.

    Damn, broke a carboy today

I've moved away from the glass carboys, but still keep a few in the rotation. I've migrated toward the Spiedel containers that range from 3-100 gallons. I've found them used and replaced the seals, but I really like the "square" 15.9 (60L) containers and have purchased 3 of them @ $99 with...

Mold damaged grapes: crush or toss?

if you look close, there are clusters that I cut off laying on the ground.

Mold damaged grapes: crush or toss?

I've also had mildew pressure in the vineyard. I would not invest any time in making wine with B or C. Even when I've made wine with grapes between A and B I've ended tossing the wine or made marginal wine that wasn't worth the time. I've been going through row by row and dropping anything...

    My second "non-car" project

The tank made its debut. Ages 3 to 84 drove it. It was a hit and performed flawlessly. Safe enough for a 3 year old to drive in the low mode, but challenging for adults in the high mode.

An AI solution to answer your questions is pretty much inevitable, don't you think?

My Vineyard Notes 2022 vs 2023 (Northern CA) - 1 month delayed

Just so happens I heard on the local news a vineyard owner in Amador saying, he has a big crop that is running later than last year. He just started veraison as well.

My Vineyard Notes 2022 vs 2023 (Northern CA) - 1 month delayed

Looks like we are still behind, about 2-3 weeks from last year.

    My second "non-car" project

Major body panels are done. I’ll sand, paint and do graphics. I’ll add a surround around cockpit and a canon perhaps First drive with body.

    Crusher question

I adjusted mine all the way out. I wanted as gentle of a crush as possible, specifically trying to avoid crushing seeds. There are however some downsides. A % of the grapes will go through uncrushed and isn't until pressing that the juice/sugar is released. It will go dry in the coming...

    My second "non-car" project

New batteries made a world of difference. The thing scoots pretty good. Still looking for spacers and studs so I can upgrade the tires. Passed the test to move on to the body build. Short video on the first ride on grass.

Using marbels to fill headsace. For one-gallon carboys, what is the accepted method?

Same. For wine that I’m storing a month or so, I use a bung and a one way check valve. I will apply vacuum every week or so. It is also has the benefit of pulling co2 out of solution.
