Why some people boil ham? its not needed and it does not improve flavor.

Never heard of it. If we're talking smoked ham then where I come from that could get you shunned by the general population. Low and slow for sure, but not boiled.

Can You Recommend a Check Valve?

Likewise for sure! I thought you were a scam caller at first because it had only been an hour or two after I placed my order! I just knew someone had hacked my email because NOBODY has customer service like this!

    How to Rack From Primary

Bear in mind I still don't know what I'm doing. I've finished one batch so far (blackberry from frozen berries), and I'm thrilled with the results. It is apparent that I've got some inaccurate and/or incomplete information regarding racking from primary. I've been working under the assumption...

    Filter Bags

I tried using these on my first batch (blackberry from frozen berries, DDDB Mod): Amazon.com: NiceCare Brew Bags 2 Pack Extra Large (26” x 22”) 250 Micron Fine Mesh Bag for Fruit Cider Apple Grape Wine Press Reusable Drawstring Straining Brew in a Bag: Kitchen & Dining Aside from being just...

Thanks everyone for all the info! I hope to be able to order AIO very soon!

Can You Recommend a Check Valve?

Yes, sorry, the precision valve. I referred to it as "the control valve". Perhaps this will help... From the IO Website ("Precision Adjustable Vacuum Valve"): Also from the AIO website:

Can You Recommend a Check Valve?

Oh this is good stuff. Tell me a little about the tweaks to your All-In-One pump (AIO): Is that the control valve that came with it? It looks different (better, higher quality, more robust) than the one pictured on the AIO website! I especially like the "filter mounting board"! Does it...

    Stopper Recovery (Spoiler Alert!)

I'm liking that idea, and you're right on time! At 0.75" O.D. those should just slide right in/out of my 1 gallon jugs! I see Amazon has the same idea in cubes and other shapes.

I know this is in the wrong place but I'm lost lol!!

I'm afraid I'm not much use to you on this subject. I have not reached that point on my first batch, but as this is my first patch I've already planned to use table sugar. Just FYI, I use an old cotton bedsheet cut into circles and secured with butcher's twine to cover my 2 gallon primary...

    Stopper Recovery (Spoiler Alert!)

No sir, I accidentally shoved one all the way in by using too much force trying to get the stopper to seal and stay.

Can You Recommend a Check Valve?

I don't think I have a schedule per se. The tubing attached to my cane is 5/16" ID; I can't really get a good measurement off the cane itself. It's this one: Amazon.com: Auto-Siphon Mini with 6 Feet of Tubing and Clamp: Industrial & Scientific .

    Stopper Recovery (Spoiler Alert!)

The bolt (1/4" x 3" shown) has to be long enough to protrude beyond the mouth of the jug so you can grab it with a pair of pliers when you pull it up. The string makes pulling everything back up easy in the event if you should drop it. Slather a little vegetable oil inside the jug mouth/neck...

    Stopper Recovery (Spoiler Alert!)

    Blackberry Wine Color

I noticed that my 3 week old blackberry wine (frozen berries) changes from a dark red to medium amber towards the rim. Is this normal? I'll try to get a picture Sunday.

1st Batch.... Should I top off Secondary?

Yes, the water is for temp control. That's a 50w aquarium heater in a Pyrex baking dish placed in a Sterilite brand plastic storage container (Wal-mart I believe)(had one on hand). Shown below with lid on. 55-65? Could be, I haven't looked into that yet, but if that is correct then it will...

1st Batch.... Should I top off Secondary?

That image was taken about an hour after racking from primary and adding Bentonite. I let that settle for a week before another lame-*** racking, and ended up with 1 gallon + about 450ml.
