    WineXpert Spicing a Merlot Kit?

I have enjoyed the Merlot Ho Ho kit wine so much I am thinking about infusing a Merlot kit with mulling spices. I have a box of Martinelli brand mulling spice bags (sachets?) which are intended for mulling cider. There are 20 of them in the box. If I make this, I plan to add the spice bags...

    What's in your glass tonight?

Sangria! It is 105 degrees here so tonight it will be Sangria! I blended 2 liters of Carlo Rossi Paisano red wine with my finished Merlot Ho Ho kit wine. (No classiness or elegance here. :)) This base is surprisingly tasty, not overly sweet, and I definitely plan to make this blend again if...

    Reversed steps--how to proceed?

Thank you all! Thank you for your advice. I appreciate it. The SG has been at 1.02 for 2 weeks. I admit I did rack it today. The carboy is located in my enclosed patio and the outside temps have been running in the low 90's. No fermentation has restarted as yet. I will wait another week...

    How's this year's garden

I am so enjoying all the pictures and descriptions of the gardens! Next year my husband and I plan to plant a garden and also replace the fruit trees we lost to the drought here in central California. We want to wait 1 more year to give the acreage a chance to recover. We are really looking...

    Reversed steps--how to proceed?

I stabilized my SP too soon and also added the Sparkolloid too soon...I misread the directions...my SP is stable at 1.02 and it is still cloudy. Should I dose it with some Super Kleer then backsweeten? Or just backsweeten it and make the next batch properly? I don't mind the cloudiness. This...

    Summer 2016 WOTM Club

I'm planning a 3 gallon Tropical DB. Still deciding between pineapple or guava juice. Leaning toward using guava nectar if I can find a good price for it. I visited Maui in April and fell in love with the flavor of guava blended with pineapple! Papaya was not a favorite. I have to do my...

    How's this year's garden

Another good deer deterrent Homemade dried pepper flakes work well around here. Dry some of your hottest peppers until they can be crumbled then mix it with a little feed corn and sprinkle around the garden. The deer eat the corn and don't come back for a while.

    Stabilized too soon--is it OK?

Thanks. I thought I might have really goofed. It's in a secondary with an airlock so I'll just let it sit for a little while and see what it wants to do.

    Stabilized too soon--is it OK?

I am making my first batch of SP and misread the instructions. I accidentally added the Kmeta, the sorbate and the Sparkolloid at 1.010 instead of .999. I imagine this batch will be cloudy and rather sweet, not requiring backsweetening. Is there anything I need to do to correct all this...

    Best deals

Years late chiming in but.... if you have a Smart and Final store in your area, that might be an option. I bought a gallon of their brand First Street for $4.98. Started my batch of SP a week ago and it is progressing nicely.

    WineXpert World Vineyard Pink Moscato

I made the one gallon World Vineyard Moscato (not the pink) last Spring. Never had Moscato before and wanted to try it. I really liked it! And my preference runs to dry red or off-dry to semi-sweet white or blush. Based on these posts, now I really want to try the Pink!

    Nectar of the Gods Kit

Thank you, Jericurl! Your answer is just what I needed. I think I will skip the kit, get the Complete Meadmaker book and go from there since I already have all the ingredients except the honey. There are quite a few beekeepers locally so I might be able to get a good price. Again thanks! :h

    Nectar of the Gods Kit

Homebrew Heaven offers a mead making kit called Nectar of the Gods. It looks like a good starter kit to me. If you have used this kit, would you recommend it, or would you say not to spend my money on it? Thanks in advance!

    Vintners Harvest Blood Orange

Blood Orange comes in cans of 49 ounces. I am guessing 1 can will work for a batch of Dragon Blood with 8 pounds of mixed berries. Any thoughts?
