    Suds-like slick on wine pour

I'm asking him if he used any fining agents. Thanks.

    Suds-like slick on wine pour

Hmmmm. I guess it could be, but I noticed it on the 2nd round of pours. If residue on the glass, I would have thought it wouldn't be there on the 2nd round of pours.

    Suds-like slick on wine pour

Opened a friend's wine and my wife and I noticed this soap-like oil slick on the surface of the wine once poured. It was a Cab Franc from a few years ago. A few swirls and it's gone but I just wanted to get the consensus thoughts on this. The wine smelled and tasted great, but it's a little...

    A tale of 2 yeasts!

I love projects like this where you can compare and contrast one changed variable. I agree, the Renaissance yeast line is fantastic. We tried their new TR-313 yeast on our Viognier last year and it was great. Of course, I've always been a big supporter of Avante (and Prelude) for reds. I...

Live virtual wine tasting event for the home winemaker - Done

Looking forward to this @NorCal ! Thanks for organizing! It will be fun to hear all of our perceptions of the same wines. As a community on this forum, we rarely get to synchronize like this, so that will be fun. Also looking forward to hearing from their somm. I understand he also knows...

    Crush day at Crushday's...

So sorry George. I can hardly imagine the horror of hearing that happen then seeing the floor! Sounds like your recovery is proceeding along well. We'll have to trade wine so I can experience this EPIC wine one day!

It was a blast! So much great wine and wine stories and @NorCal's Big Barn was a perfect spot. It was great to meet @crushday. Special moment was @NorCal pulling out a hidden award-winning 2015 wine of mine (Barbera) that I gave him many years ago that we all assumed was long gone. Taking this...

    Getting Ready for Grape Season

Glad to see many are happily harvesting and making wine already. I would be too if I didn't get a message from my Barbera grower while I WAS ON THE WAY to pick up 1500 pounds of grapes last week, "sorry but the deer devastated my crop and I have no grapes for you". He says it's the 1st time in...

Heat spikes and harvest timing....do it now or wait it out?

The vineyard I source Barbera from has consistently hit ripeness and harvested Labor Day weekend....at least for the last three years. This year things are running a little earlier. Measurements from 8/13 had Brix of 24.5 - 25.0, pH of 3.2. We want to get pH up to 3.3-3.5 and can water back...

    Getting Ready for Grape Season

With grape harvest just around the corner, it's a good time to plan and order your supplies. I placed our order last week and the vendor commented that it's very smart, especially this year, to order way ahead of the crowd. He said there will likely be shortages of "your favorite items" if you...

ABV results after using non-saccharomyces yeast

The two wines have their differences, but it's not stark. It's not that one is better than the other but almost like you have two different vineyards (even those these are both from the same source). I would say the Prelude CF has a rounder, fuller body. A little more complexity and...
