    Something affecting my vines.

Black rot or anthracnose. Get some mancozeb and powdered sulfur , that might help save your crop. Next year follow a strict spray schedule. I think it will be very hard to grow organic in your area.

Interesting video on adding sulfur in wine making...

I use so2 at the minimum level per the ph after a few months of settling to make sure the MLF completes. I also use a lot of tannin as an antioxidant. I’ve recently started using a .35 micron filter and chitosan which is supposed to be antibacterial. Plus my wines are typically higher in acid...

New crusher destemmer added to my vineyard

I suppose you could immobilize the pulley and then reverse the polarity of the motor and turn the motor on and off until it breaks free. On my motor the pulley is screwd on and a little rusty so it’s never coming off.

New crusher destemmer added to my vineyard

That’s exactly what I want to do, but I can’t find a pulley that size that takes a flat belt. Where did you get the pulley?

    Veraison has started

I feel this is a time to celebrate. The grapes are more disease resistant now and the color is a sign of a good harvest. Bud break, flowering, veraison and harvest should all have a festival to celebrate the life cycle of the vine. It’s a bit humid today.

    Grape anatomy...

while the yeasts are fermenting the grapes they should find the sugar in the less crushed grapes. After all some wineries do whole cluster fermentations on purpose. maybe leave the grapes to ferment longer. there are some simple ways to press the grapes, use a bucket with some holes in it and...

New crusher destemmer added to my vineyard

i found a treadmill for free with a DC motor. 2.5 hp, speed is controlled by a slider, there are a couple circuit boards that must track speed and distance etc. Tomorrow i need to figure out how to get rid of everything but the transformer and the slider. The speed is 0-7080 rpms , it runs real...

Pristine Fungicide vs. Bonide Fruit Tree & Plant Guard

Looks like a good product. I use tebuconazole which is the same class and Pristine looks even better, might have to switch.

New crusher destemmer added to my vineyard

I found a used crusher/destemmer on Craigslist and drove four hours west into Minnesota to pick it up. It hadn’t been cleaned after the previous owner used it last. They only used twice. It took about 90 minutes to clean it. It’s manual so I’m already thinking of how to make it easy to operate...

    Grape problems.

You should be ok. The sprays should control mildew and rot. One pic is a leaf miner. Not much you can do about that. One pic looks like a mineral issue.

    My pumping system

I decided to use a pump to move wine from carboy to carboy. I’ll still use my AIO vacuum pump for bottling tho. My new setup pumps a gallon a minute and doesn’t aerate my wine which I hope will leave me a more aromatic wine. I’ll run it thru a whole house filter to keep the diaphragm pump clean...

Anything I Should Know Before I Wild Ferment with a Makeshift Rig?

So if your starter smelled bad you would toss it and only keep good smelling starters, kind of like a sour dough starter for bread? I could deal with that. Is this some what like some third world beer?
