    Trellis advice for small vineyard

I agree about over tightening the wire. I used a come along to tighten my top wire and ended having to reset my end posts as they all popped up and out.

    What R you doing today?

Sprayed fungicide in the vineyard using my Milwaukee powered backpack sprayer. First time in two years I’ve put it on my back. I’ve been working out regularly for two years and can carry it easily now, no more dragging it around in a cart. Very hot and humid weather coming up for the next week...

Pruning question , cutting growing shoot tips

If they do it , it seems to show, their Marquette wine is great. I was thinking of doing what you do and doing a little every day. Last year I had shoots twelve feet long. I did find a video of a California vineyard removing tips as well.

Pruning question , cutting growing shoot tips

My vines are very prolific , should I cut the growing tip off at 4’ length? Will that make the shoot bushier? Last year I let the vines grow and ended up with very long shoots that made spraying a lot more difficult.

Marijuana surpasses alcohol in daily use for Americans, study finds

I have to drive to Michigan to get a gummie called Calm, which has three cbd type chemicals and 1 mg of thc so you can’t get high unless you eat about ten. I take one when I pull a muscle in my back and it helps quite a bit. It’s a shame that this is so hard to get.

    A question for the veterans!

If it was my wine I would hit it with potassium bicarbonate and add enough sugar to get up to 1.003 sg. Even raising the ph to 3.6 the wine will be sour but just a tiny bit of sugar will help. FYI , Grape and Granary now sells small packets of VP 41 malolactic bacteria for about $12.

Marijuana surpasses alcohol in daily use for Americans, study finds

When I moved out to the country I soon found out a lot of people smoke pot. It has helped older people with pain and keeps alcohol challenged people from drinking. Of course most people that smoke just like to be stoned. There are many creams and gummies formulated for arthritis as well. My...

    Post your labels here

Here’s a Microsoft copilot AI generated label. Not bad for giving it minimal info to work with. Not something I would use but still pretty cool.

    Shoot thinning by professionals

Wow, my Marquette vines are so productive I should thin them but probably won’t . I think the root system can support a large canopy. I thinned a couple rows last year and there was no difference.

Measuring wine parameters in 19 crimes red blend

I bought a bottle of 19 crimes red blend that is labeled as a sweet wine. My friends like it so I thought I’d investigate it. It has 7.7 g/l of acid, a PH of 3.41 and an sg of 1.003. It tastes sweeter than sg 1.003, I wonder what additive they use to make it sweeter, it’s not real sweet but you...

    2024 Chile juice buckets

A few winemaking clubs in Wisconsin join together to make juice bucket purchases twice a year. I bought a carmenere and a viognier this year at $56 a bucket it’s a pretty good deal. The Viognier only had 2 g/l of acid, the carmenere was about 4.5. The aroma and flavor is good on both, I added a...

    Grape berry moth control

The wild grapes are flowering now which means the grape berry moth is now active. I put a bug zapper out by my vineyard to control the moths. I had to clean it out yesterday as there were so many moths dead in it. I think it’s a great way to kill the moths and a few mosquitos as well. I leave it...

    Wild Grape Suggestions Please

My neighbors now deceased father started making wine in the 1940s. She brought a bottle of his old wine to a get together the other day, it was probably from the 50s and judging from the acid and tannin I think was wild grape. ( he made mostly wild grape wine) It was very good. Oxidized for sure...
