Blackberries, black raspberries and other similar

Looked again today, berries are forming. And yes about 3-4 feet tall. Still have not tried picking the berries because not ripe. Any idea on what kind of berry?

Blackberries, black raspberries and other similar

Unfortunately I missed seeing the blossoms, just started exploring the field recently to see what’s out there. I’ll have to keep an eye on them and get out in earlier in the season next year.

Blackberries, black raspberries and other similar

Lol! We had the hottest jalapeños last year and salsa was great. This year they taste like a bell pepper, not even worthy of salsa. Hopefully some of them will get hotter, plants just started producing.

Blackberries, black raspberries and other similar

With the help of other members on this forum I have decided on my next wine. It will be blackberry. But it could be black raspberry or some other berry. I have identified wild blackberries on my property, and lots of them. But I also have some other berry that I have not identified yet. It’s not...

Chickweed wine - I'm going for it!

I’ve gotten off topic with this thread and going to start a new one. First I am going to become a supporting member. I have a lot of questions and I realize this forum is well worthy of support. Thanks all for every bit of info I have received!

Chickweed wine - I'm going for it!

I am definitely going to look closer and see I have blackberries! Thanks for the tip about propagating them. One of my limitations is that our field is so overgrown and I am fearful of ticks and snakes. My husband offered to mow up to anything I see if interest so I can get to it, but if I could...

Chickweed wine - I'm going for it!

I am a kentucky transplant, lived most of my life in Denver, CO. Kentucky is a jungle compared to Colorado! I’m sure I have many more opportunities for wine than I am aware of. I just have a lot of educating myself first. I downloaded a plant ID app, but it doesn’t seem reliable. I’m going to...

Chickweed wine - I'm going for it!

Walked my property in search of chickweed today and no luck. We have about 8 acres of overgrown hay field that my husband has mowed paths through. We have no use for hay so we are letting it grow to get more trees. There is so much stuff growing out there, but I don’t know how to identify. I did...

How to bottle from a large demijohn

Hmmm. I’m pretty sure I got the idea of using a bucket with spigot for primary fermentation from this forum. Why is that not a good idea? Because of controlling degassing? Ok if splash racking but not if still racking?

How to bottle from a large demijohn

Newbie question, do you attach the bottling wand to the spigot? Do you have a picture of how that works? I have a couple of buckets with spigots and I use them for my primary, making it easier to go to secondary leaving gross lees at bottom below the spigot. But sounds like it could make...

Magnolia Wine - I'm going for it! (And glad I did!)

Thanks! That was pretty much my thought too. Was hoping they were edible because they sure are pretty and smell good.

Magnolia Wine - I'm going for it! (And glad I did!)

Do you think tulip poplar flowers would be similar? My Google search came up with conflicting reports if edible. I gathered a sack on hike this morning but not sure if I should proceed.

Eastern Redbud - I'm going for it!

Not to sound weird, @BigDaveK , you are my inspiration! I love hearing about your latest and makes me look around my property for ideas. Unfortunately the weather has been strange this year, warm and wet then cold and dry, rinse repeat. Hoping some wild stuff will grow before dries out.

Eastern Redbud - I'm going for it!

Oh I wish I had more redbuds in my property, I would love to try this! Redbuds are one of my favorite trees for two reasons, means spring is coming and time to hunt for morels. Maybe I’ll plant more redbuds so I can have a third reason to love, raspberry tasting wine sounds fantastic. To make...

    Mojito SP

Can you please tell me more about the fermonster? Do you just leave it in there until bottling? No need to worry about headspace since not going to be in there long? Do you put an airlock on it after fermentation done? Sorry for so many questions, I’m intrigued by this device.

Any other thrifty wine makers out there?

I only wish I didn’t have to worry about what things cost.

Any other thrifty wine makers out there?

I have limited funds, and no matter how much fun it is, the funds win 😢. But I have received some good ideas that are within my reach. Now I just hope Santa brings me that all in one pump this year. I’m trying to be extra good this year 😂

    Mojito SP

I can’t wait to hear more. I would like to try this but only want to do a gallon batch to start. I’m not sure if I want to add rum, still debating that.

Any other thrifty wine makers out there?

Lol! I’m a very new wine maker. City girl turned country girl a few years ago. Have our first garden this year and I get super excited about foraging. Got me some maypops today (yes like passion fruit) but think I’m gonna need a whole lot more. They have a sweet pulp, but no distinct taste...
