    Cork Ends Curling Up

    The only time I know I had this problem was with a batch of 375 ml bottles. About 20% of the corks backed out 1/4" or more, when I pulled them to re-cork, the bottoms were flared like yours. Could be others that I just don't know about yet.

    does anybody have suggestions/sources for a reasonable priced fruit/wine press. Maybe less than $250? Most of the ones that look well constructed are pretty expensive and the cheap ones are, well cheap. No local source and reluctant to purchase from amazon just based on ratings.

    I collected 5 lbs of ground cherries last summer and they have been in the freezer. I think it's time to start my wine. I plan on basically following BigDaveK recipe but would like advise about how much tannin if any to add. Would adding a banana with peel be enough tannin? 5 lbs ground...

    Not sure I understand. Did you short the water? For example the red currant is 65 brix as sold, if diluted as directed, it should make a 10.5 brix juice or 1.042 SG, if you didn't add sugar how did the sg get to 1.120, (unless its soluable nonfermentables) .

    Ordered the Black Currant yesterday, may have to wait a month or so until I have a free 6 gallon carboy. Can't decide If I want to make as instructed or maybe tweak it. Some cherry concentrate post ferment as a substitute for some of the sweetener pack(s)?

    I ordered a 6 and a couple of 3's from them with good results. I usually wait and buy from a LHBS but they are a couple of hours away and I needed the carboys with no time to make a trip.
