    Wild Blackberry Wine

Raptor99, I made my first wine a year ago with wild blackberries, a port actually. It is so delicious I have to ration it! I'm not sure what variety but I'm north of you in WA. I'll snap a picture when I get home. I had 80 pounds of berries and got 8 gallons of juice before fortifying. Last...

    What's for Dinner?

The pursuit of perfect pizza is a never-ending challenge in my household. Last night we clicked, just the way we like it.

    New Barrel

How do I tell the difference? I would guess toast is brown, char is black. It certainly looks black to me, so I would guess char. Is there such thing as medium char?

    New Barrel

...which brings up another question. If you burn sulfur in a barrel for storage, aren't you introducing a sulfur smell? Do you need to do something to neutralize it?

    New Barrel

So I acquired a new barrel, looks like 3G. Probably a few years old but unused, still in wrapper. I've been adding water for over a week because it has a slow leak that's not sealing. After several days it stinks of rotten egg sulfur. I added SO2 to the water thinking it would prevent such...

Alright, good to know a few favorites. My MIL has a place there and we have visited a couple times. So much to explore! I think I would make the trip just for Elote Cafe!

    What's in your glass tonight?

Received this one as a gift. I've never been much of a champagne guy but I don't believe I've ever had such a high end champagne before. With stuff as rich and smooth as this I could definitely become a believer!

Wino Investing: What Stocks Interest You? (For informational purposes only. This is not investment advice.)

I'm not sure wine drinking and investing are a good combo, but I bought a little too. I didn't even know wine stocks were a thing until you brought it up.

    What's in your glass tonight?

Received this as an anniversary gift several years ago. Never opened it because it's way beyond our pay grade. Well, today is our 40th so it's now or never. Took the boat, the wine and a charcuterie tray to Lake Union in view of Seattle city lights. It was a fine wine to be sure. But if there is...

Yeah I saw your thread earlier. At the time I thought I already have enough to learn without getting into barrels. Changed my mind.

    New Barrel

Ah, thanks for the info. Yeah I almost got sucked in but saw too many red flags.

    New Barrel

I was tempted to try one of their barrels but on further investigation they seem like a sketchy company.

Exactly! Some of my favorite wineries have quite unimpressive labels.

    Post your labels here

Funny. You folks are all so professional, I guess I'm a misfit. If I didn't need to identify the contents I wouldn't bother with a label at all. I can't even be bothered to peel the old labels off. BTW, I didn't want to be branded a heretic so I kept my mouth shut about SP. I made a batch and I...

Finer Wine Kit Finer Wine Kits

Not exactly on topic, but still related to economics, I just read an article on US grape statistics. 2019 figures, but enlightening. "In California, the statewide average price for a ton of Cab was $1,769 — not that much more than in Washington state. However, in the Napa Valley, the average...
