Another new wine maker and "experienced" wine taster!

I disagree (lol!) Buy TWO. When you break one, you'll have a backup, trust me!

Another new wine maker and "experienced" wine taster!

Lesson learned, I found out here, more reputable companies to deal with, so I won't fall into that trap again!

Another new wine maker and "experienced" wine taster!

I bought a 'low-end' kit, and they shorted the juice on me by almost 50%. You get what you pay for, I bought a 'Finer Wine' kit, and expect good things!

Finer Wine Kit Finer Wine Kits

I ordered my Zin kit (/w 2xskins) on Sunday night, I got it today (Wed.), at 10:45, standard shipping. OH to MA is not a huge distance, but I am very pleased. (Oh yeah, and probably twice the juice than that low priced Chardonnay that I bought!) Thanks everyone, I looked to this site to find...

“We are moving Alabama with the times," gov says after signing wine delivery bill... :D

. . . they might have to prove you were selling it, although maybe not though.

“We are moving Alabama with the times," gov says after signing wine delivery bill... :D

Tell them that they will get more tax money if it can be bought in the state, dollars to doughnuts (pun intended), they will change their minds! "I get more money to play with?"

    Added too much of sugar

EC-1118 is workhorse yeast, and will quickly ferment your juice. You can boil your bread yeast, and after it cools, it will become nutrient to the wine yeast. Later, you can use different yeasts, that will enhance different aspects of your wine, depending on the fruit used. One question: Are...

Another new wine maker and "experienced" wine taster!

Don't be humbled by this, read online about wine-making, it's not that hard. #1 rule, you MUST keep everything sanitized (not sterilized - which is an absolute). I use a potassium metabisulfite solution, that I make myself, I spray it on, and rinse with clean water after. If you have a wine...

    Chardonnay

OK, I had a bit of the shmeg settling in the fridge, and I got a half glass out of it. It was thin (as I suspected), but it tasted ok. It's drinkable, but I'll wait longer.

Yeah, that wouldn't work for me, it would never get filled up!

Help - oxidized reds due to low airlock

Go ahead, and if it doesn't work, we will all know better! (ROFL) (sorry - had to!) I have no experience with using milk in wine making, kind of freaks me out!

    Chardonnay

Yeah, I read that. It's not as much about the price, as it is about the value. I'm searching a new terrain.
  16. G259

    Chardonnay

Yeah, I wanted to go lower end for my first kit, to see the ins and outs. I guess that you really do get what you pay for, or less in my case! I'll look at RJS and WE, seeing that I have read some solid reviews.

    Chardonnay

Thanks for that Joe, I think I'll add 1T per 3 gal. batch, or do you think more? BTW, I have been reading about vendors frequently shorting juice in kits, should I shun kits altogether, or are some more reliable than others?

    first wine Panic, help!

I have found that having a variety of yeast on hand allows me to pick and choose, and also to experiment at times. Kit wines usually ALWAYS come with EC-1118 because #1-They want no problems, #2-They want you to finish quickly, and then buy another kit. You can improve your wine by using...

    first wine Panic, help!

I will agree with the above comment. As for only using 1/2 a packet of yeast (and yes, I did that when I started), don't bother! How much does yeast cost? With the possibility of having fermentation issues, it's not worth the risks. Just use the entire package, believe me. I know cost...
