    Southeast Kansas vineyard

Ivy, where up state did you use to hail from? I'm about an hour and a half from KC. If you want some frontenac cutting to start next spring, just holler. Could have fixed you up this year, but just a bit to late, they been laying by the burn pile a little too lobg, and mixed up with...

How to Shoot Thin in the Vineyard

BM, a cage trap is your friend with a marrading ****. Make sure you don't make your problem someone elses after you catch him. Trash pandas are everywhere, and once they key on your grapes, they won't quit till they eat them all.

    Southeast Kansas vineyard

Yes, Manhattan Ks! lol NY! Ivy, I been growing concord, cataba, frontenac, norton and the latest one is verona. A spraying incident a couple years ago, hurt my concords bad, and killed some of my older verona vines. The farmers around here seem to spray everything, and only care about their...

    Southeast Kansas vineyard

Welcome aboard! I'm straight north of Wamego, about thirty mi from the Ne boarder. North end of the flint hills. Planted some about 18 years ago, when we moved up here from Manhattan. Now have almost two acres of grapes, five varieties. I'm starting to get old, but I still add something new...

    what grape is this?

I have made wine out of concord grapes for quite a few years. Ferment to dry, and backsweeten slightly and anyone but wine snobs will love it. Ph is in the normal range of about 3.3- 3.4 most years. I also grow Nortons, and being a high acid grape, I blend a lot of my concord with norton at...

    What the hell is this?

Yes, I found a total of four on my frontenacs, and none on my other varietys. I opened one up, early on, and found a small white maggot in it, about the same time someone else posted on another thread about the same thing. Glad it wasn't something serious, but in about 16 years of growing...

    2,4-D the struggle is real.

I get some every year. I live in mostly pasture country, but the stuff they spray on brush drifts a long way when the wind is right. I got a bad hit a couple years ago when the jackwad running a spray plane turned right over top of me, and yeah, no one cares. They like to drink my wine, but...

    What the hell is this?

Thank you for the reply, cluster buster. I have came to the same conclusion. All three I found had a grub inside the growth, so I breath a sigh of relief.

    Strange growth on Marquette vine

Well, that is not anything like what is in my frontenacs. See the pic in my post, "What the hell is this?" Does not look anything like the pics in the attatchment. Also, they state it is in the NE section of the country. Crap!

    Strange growth on Marquette vine

Only difference in our year, is that we have had a cool spring and when it turned hot this summer, it has been interspersed with cool and rainey spells. I'm in Ks, and it is usually 100+ this time of the year, and we just had a week of low humidity and 75 degree days, very unusual for this time...

    Strange growth on Marquette vine

If you do contact that person, please post up what he says. I did some research on crown gall and found they mentioned an areal manfistation, and I believe that is what we have. The vine that had the growth pictured in my thread, is about twelve years old with no sign of crown gall on the...

    What the hell is this?

Thank you, Rice Guy. I believe you nailed it. Did some homework on it and they always show pics of trunks, but they mentioned it can be arial. None of my trunks show any sign of it. That is disturbing! The vines are mostly right at twelve years old.

    What the hell is this?

Not arguing, but I was under the impression crown gall delt with the trunks on vines. Are you saying this is a manfistation of CG up in the foliage of the plant?

    What the hell is this?

I was spraying seven on this afternoon on those vines and found two more of those growths. Have never seen that before on any of my vines, but there has to be someone that knows what they are! They are hard and woody, but I haven't opened one up yet!

    What the hell is this?

Found this on my frontenacs this morning while netting. Any ideas as to what this is?

Need Help with Possibly Dead Vines

Concords are not quite that bullit pruff! I have about a half acre of them, and two years ago, a neighbor sprayed his pasture with an airplane, and I had a lot of vines hurt. Then this spring, after pruning, we had a week of low twentys in temp that killed a number of vines completely, some...

    Threshold for controlling leaf phylloxera?

My frontenac looked just like your pic, last year on my vines. This year they are just starting on the ends with new growth. I'll keep an eye on your thread Mr Miller!
