    pH storage solution alternative

FWIW: There is a difference between "cleaning solution" and "storage solution" - Right? I have a small amount of cleaning solution on hand.

    pH storage solution alternative

Local wine supply shop was out of pH probe storage solution when I stopped by yesterday. Westlabs indicates that if 4M potassium chloride solution isn’t available, it’s acceptable to store probe in either pH 4 or 7 buffer solution. Does anyone do this on a regular basis? Would be great to...

    Fruit fly protection

What's the favorite method of control; traps (vinegar/cider), "fly" paper (sticky stuff), etc? Anyone try a "bug zapper" hung near primaries?

    Headspace eliminator

Gee! I just thought we were going off topic and not living on the edge! Sorry for the digression :p We geriatrics tend to do that.

    Headspace eliminator

Actually, they do but don't asked me how I know that - I still get kinda woozy!!! Sorry Dave🙀 My better half has the same problem with animal dander. Her allergist told her that cats are the worst of all due to a substance in their saliva. I told her she should just stop kissing cats! She...

    Headspace eliminator

You're absolutely right Bryan - more than one way to skin a cat (why would anyone want to skin a cat anyway ;)) or as my grandfather used to say: That's why we chocolate AND vanilla ice cream!!

    Headspace eliminator

I used the eliminators last year for the first time and they performed very well. One of the check valves developed a leak and the bulb would reinflate within a day. I sent Steve a note and asked for replacement valve; he sent me a new complete eliminator - how's that for customer service!!!👍 I...

Must has come up through air lock and is on top of plastic bucket lid

I would sanitize a pitcher of sorts and dip the excess must to another primary or better yet, simply pour from one into the other; oxygen at this point won't hurt. Good rule of thumb is to never fill a primary more than 3/4 to allow for expansion. Clean and sanitize your airlock and bucket top...

    Yeast round table article

I used to subscribe WM many years ago and always found the articles informative. Believe I may still have a few old hard copies that I've kept for continuing reference thru the years. I regularly refer to the "WINEMAKER'S ANSWER BOOK" by the Wine Wizard.

    Are these still good

Out of curiosity, where did you fine the frozen grape concentrate? I have an old recipe for an early drinking wine made for Welches frozen concentrate that I always enjoyed but can't find ANY frozen concentrate anymore. I understand it is no longer made. Check out this link for a a "3-D" deer...

    Are these still good

Looks great - go for it. You might want to put this year's crop in gallon zip lock bag to freeze. I picked ~ 6 gallons this afternoon, bagged and into the freezer. I also set 3 live traps for raccoons. They went thru a couple of hundred last night judging from the hulls!:tz

    Noble muscadine grapes

The muscadines should be fine in the fridge for a few days; however, you will want to freeze them if it's gonna be much longer. Freezing is my choice for storage until the harvest is over because the freezing will rupture the cell walls and you'll actually get more juice. Of course, you'll...

    Natural/Spontaneous Fermentation

Believe I read that it could take as long as 5 days for the ignition and then it was a pretty slow ferment after that.
