    how did you start winemaking?

Sadly, your poll options are not complete. There are far, far more reasons than the three you suggested. So always a good idea to include "Other -- explain in comments". I started wine making because I bought a winery and a vineyard... It was that simple. Or that complex... I am still trying to...

What fruit makes a good ‘red’?

Agree. Fully. with fruit wines. Problem is... What is a good fruit balance? Darn if I know. I only did varietal fruit wines (cherry, mulberry etc.). But a blend may be specular.

What fruit makes a good ‘red’?

Black Mulberry. I only did it a few times, but made a great stout red wine. https://stcoemgen.com/2012/08/06/mulberry-wine/ Edit : Note I provide a link to show I actually made this wine. Not just "suggesting" something. To think about.... 🙃

    Disease on plants - UK

It may be complicated...... If in the US, I would suggest contacting the nearest agricultural extension (often government or university based). In the UK you probably have similar. Suggest contacting your local "Agricultural Extension" (or whatever they are called in the UK) government office...

    Disease on plants - UK

There are fungal diseases. Bacterial diseases. And Viral diseases. If you spray, and the issue persisted, you may have one of the later two. Those are usually not curable. I would just cut out the vine, burn it, then and try again with a new one. Most wine vines sold at retailers are suppose...

What is your white wine degas, clearing & stabilization protocol?

Also take my advice to not be afraid to rack it. Add KMeta as needed. But a simple racking of cloudy white wine can sometimes do a lot. Hope this helps.

What is your white wine degas, clearing & stabilization protocol?

From my experience, adding fining agents do strip out the suspended material fast, but also the aroma and tastes of the wine. So I never use them. My wine always drops clear. If I give it enough time. Do not be too much in a hurry to bottle. Give it time in bulk. Do not be afraid to rack if...

Fining - A tale of two carboys...

But do they taste the same? I ask, as every time I used a fining agent, the aroma and taste was different. And not in good way.... :( But I have never used a 0.45um filter. So would love to know if using such a filter affected aroma, and taste. ;)

Fining - A tale of two carboys...

To steal your great start..... I may suggest: It was the best of wines, it was the worst of wines, it was the age of k-meta, it was the age of natural ferment, it was the epoch of lets go for it, it was the epoch of cheap wine kits, it was the season of white wine, it was the season of red...

Fining - A tale of two carboys...

This year some of my wine is still cloudy. Very Unusual. But not without precedent. Who knows why... I do not.... It is unusual, but not impossible. Wine making is complicated. Sometimes a wine will simply not clarify. Either wait more, rack more to get it clear, bottle it "as is" and call it a...

Fining - A tale of two carboys...

I thought most would get your Charles Dickens reference as per the OP post. So did not specifically reference it. But did not see any clear applaud, so I do so now.... Tale of Two Cities. Well done. To you both.

The recipe that artificial intelligence has recommended

Agree. But staring too soon has costs. The past ten years of data may be a biased sample, for example, and trying to use it forward could be a huge mistake.... Potentially incomplete data is garbage in garbage out. Thus, seems more a PR stunt. Or a serious endeavor by people who have not...

The recipe that artificial intelligence has recommended

Well... I think we can all assume it is probably a lot more complicated. There is probably a huge dose of somthing akin to Bayesian stats going on there too. :-)

The recipe that artificial intelligence has recommended

Ten years. Golly jeez wiz. Wine making just out of diapers. I have been growing grapes and making wine for over two decades, and I am just starting to figure it out. In my humble opinion, (IMHO) Viberti is maybe an order of magnitude off in their data time line.

Fining - A tale of two carboys...

That is good news. I gave up on using fining agents as I found they too often stripped out the delicate flavors of the wine I wanted to keep. That is of course only my anecdotal experience. Even bone dry wines may not have given off all their CO2. Wine is complicated. The fining agent may...

Setup to Bottle directly from 225L barrel

Curious... how did you siphon? Did you use a simple bottling tool with a siphon? Or a more professional tool such as: https://vigopresses.co.uk/super-automatic-bottle-filler/

Setup to Bottle directly from 225L barrel

I would suggest a nozzle bottle filler. Very easy to use. No where near 1.5K in price. Example: https://vigopresses.co.uk/2-nozzle-bottle-filler

    Vineyard Mulch

Physical weed control is mostly by light suppression. Cheapest weed suppression is cardboard. You can often get large amounts free. If you want to toss some wood chips or sawdust on top to keep the wind from blowing it away and making it look nice that would be your best option and you would...

    Vineyard Mulch

I tried this for awhile. It greatly reduced vine vigor. Which, for me, was bad. Went back to tilling the rows. But... For those with very vigorous vines, it may be actually an asset.

    Vineyard Mulch

I personally read "between plants in the row" as mulching the aisle as he later stated the benefit of keeping the row clean, which was the next part I also agree with. Bare soil under the vines also can often store and reflect daytime sun heat at night. Helping grapes ripen.
