    Chaptalization

True. But when discussing "rules" like chaptalzation, "real" Champagne comes with its own set of very rigid and fixed set of rules. So six of one, half a dozen of the other rule wise.... :)

    Chaptalization

The "logic" is based from Vinifera grape regions, in that Vinifera grapes when grown in their correct area will consistently reach sufficient Brix (or Brix-Acidity combo), and do not need added sugar. And that some varieties should be grown in different areas to get the best wine. Some wine...

World's Oldest Unopened Bottle of Wine

"presumed to contain liquid wine".... Again "presumed". Maybe it contain the spinal fluid of the deceased person found in the tomb.... Let us not judge.... :) As an historical artifact, it is amazing. Worth preserving "as is". But.... whatever is in the bottle (and wine is still a presumption...

What are you listening to tonight...

What are you listening to.... Not just tonight but all day long. Currently: OTR - Old Time Radio. Music leaves me flat after a few songs. But while working, I can listen to OTR half hour stories all day long. I have the ear plugs in all the time. From comedy, crime (Spade, Marlo, Diamond...

Catnip Wine - I'm going for it!

My wife is actually a public figure in Hungary. There is even a Hungarian only language Wikipedia page about her (Google Translate can process this to English if one does not speak Hungarian: https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sallee-Kereszturi_Barbara So she does control her own media a lot. I can...

Catnip Wine - I'm going for it!

I wish I lived next to @BigDaveK. No. Seriously. I have a curious palate. Where is the down side**? ** Well, okay, if he says "Strychnine Wine, I am going for it", I may pass. But only because it is against my religion to consume anything from the genus Stychnos..... :)

Happy Anniversary!!!! 😀 Wow. That is so sweet and amazing. And very, very cool!

What is your white wine degas, clearing & stabilization protocol?

With education, one hopes it will. Yes that is sad. And the job, and challenge to educators to help them understand. That is if they did not understand, then the educator needs to see how to help them understand. The failure is not with the student, but with the educator. And a good educator...

What is your white wine degas, clearing & stabilization protocol?

Fair enough. I respect that view. But... Interestingly, Bret Stephens had a commentary today about bottom up influences .... https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/13/opinion/republican-party-kevin-mccarthy.html

What is your white wine degas, clearing & stabilization protocol?

And I for one think that would be a great opportunity to educate the wine bottle recipient about the real world of wine. And not to be afraid of crystals. A little card on the bottle neck would suffice. Adding a little bit more about the aroma, bouquet and experience of the wine would also be...

What is your white wine degas, clearing & stabilization protocol?

Agree with @Johnd. Time. But that is only an option is one has a cellar with correct temperatures. I do. But someone in California (my home state by the way) may not. So it becomes more difficult to advise. While I love CA wine, never had a winery there and never made wine there so I can not...

    Hydrogen cars hit Australian market

No sources..... Yet. Care to give some independent sources for above? I maintain an open mind, but I would like to see sources, so I can decide if based on fact or just big talk.... :) Side note: The most pest problems with growing cannabis is the same with most plants: Spider mites, aphids and...

    Hydrogen cars hit Australian market

Good retort. I have seen claims about resource limits on batteries. Not sure it true or not. But I do know materials to make chemical batteries will make a new geopolitics. Which can be very dangerous. That is to me a larger concern. Thus, and personally I prefer non-chemical batteries. Such...

    Hydrogen cars hit Australian market

Yes it is. And if people could get high on wheat, we would not have that either. No bread. Regulations based on ideologies, missing the benefits, because of some minor side effects wrapped around silly ideologies. My basic point....

Butternut Squash Wine - I'm going for it!

I asked a friend. And he said definitely pine, or whatever can be picked up at any local Home Depot. The idea being keeping this as an every man project for home wine making. Personally, and speaking only for myself of course, and being a bit of a snob, I would suggest rather ebony or...

    Clear versus green/brown wine bottles

I, for one, have never seen a "use by date" on wine bottles. But, since you are from the UK, maybe the Men From the Ministry has found some obscure UK regulation about that, even if not relevant for the rest of the planet......

    Hydrogen cars hit Australian market

To live in a black world, makes the entire world dark. To grow a green world, you have to dig a black hole somewhere....But that black hole is local, not global. So... the big picture. Yes, it matters. Who has to suffer in the black hole.... well that is another issue. Often not fair. Often...
