Buon Vino filtration system -- best practices

Citric acid. From same article: Soak your pads in a solution of one quart (one liter) of cold water with an eighth of a teaspoon (0 .75 gram) of metabisulfite and one teaspoon (3.5 g) of citric acid dissolved into it You can find it here

Buon Vino filtration system -- best practices

They have an article on their website "Clear it up" where it is stated: "Filter systems will typically leak about 5% of the wine being filtered. For a six-gallon batch this amounts to about 4 cups (1 liter). If you are getting significantly more leakage than this there may be something wrong...

Changing the volume of a kit

Tim Vandergrift, the "father" of wine kits, has made a comment on this subject here There is another way to increase the starting gravity of the kit without adding sugar, by making the volume up to 5 gallons (19 litres) instead of 6 gallons (23 litres). This would seem to be even more...

“We are moving Alabama with the times," gov says after signing wine delivery bill... :D

Thanks Bryan! Then I got it correctly, I still can't understand how transporting more than 5 gallons into AL could be a felony and not a misdemeanor? FWIW lifetime in Sweden means 16 years in prison on an average but that has changed now so lifetime can't be less than 18 years.

“We are moving Alabama with the times," gov says after signing wine delivery bill... :D

1-6 years here in Sweden would mean that you have done some sort of violent crime like armed robbery, but it has to be serious/aggravated one. Not sure of the correct English term here: "serious", "aggravated", "capital", "gross" or...

The EC1118 is actually considered to be a champagne yeast.

    WineXpert More winexpert woes

I don't know if there is law controlling this in Canada or the US but in the EU claims should be done to the seller not the producer: Free of charge, 2-year guarantee for all goods You always have the right to a minimum 2-year guarantee at no cost, regardless of whether you bought your goods...

RJS En Primeur vs WE Private Res with skins

RJS isn't sold here in Sweden so WE is the only option.

RJS En Primeur vs WE Private Res with skins

@Brian55 I have done most of the WE kits you're mentioning and none have been below 1,090. And i'm not shorting any water. My Fumé Blanc was 1,092, so that's a pretty big difference. Will soon do the Super Tuscan and LE2020 Grenache Tannat Shiraz

RJS En Primeur vs WE Private Res with skins

May I ask which kit that was? I have started four kits this far and all are in the same range as before their re formulation (above 1.090)

    Questions to RJS

Out of curiosity, can you put a ballpark figure on that claim? I can't relate to what you mean by "large".

Revisiting the sediment issue with kit wines

I really can't see the benefit of the first racking, what will it accomplish that the second wont?

    new Winexpert kits

Thanks for sharing @winemaker81 Nice to have some real tests and not only preconceived notions. I have bought kits from classics, reserve and private reserve, but a bit late on it as they just recently became available in my part of the world.

Wine Expert Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Lodi Ranch 11

@Kantzje Check this post, the poster got a big jump in gravity when adding the skins: WineXpert kit goof?

    WineXpert kit goof?

Now that is a bigger jump than what I have seen before. I have a note that the yeast that came with mine Nebbiolo was EC1118 as well.
