    Other Kieselsol solidifying

The comment was made by WE tech service support in relation to this picture. Left was referred to as "clear". The right is partly solid.

Other If you had one yeast for bold reds

When did you measure the OG? The skin pack increases the OG quite a bit. I too have had the "oh, only 1,07-ish" to end up with 1,095-ish. It takes quite some stirring and/or time for sugar in the skin pack to get into the must. I know that some wait to the next day before adding the yeast (to...

    Other Kieselsol solidifying

Precisely, here's what a Winexpert technician mailed me: "Use clear, liquid kieselsol. The cloudy one has been frozen somewhere in transit and won’t work as well. "

Finer Wine Kit Finer Wine Kits

Yeah, it’s hard for me to use low quality equipment after spending all those years in the food industry, having said that, I agree with you, that it doesn’t make any difference in most cases. It’s an overkill for sure. However, the question I made before was about being able to taste a...

I has received such before. It's was due to low temperature. They should be replaced

I didn't say that I didn't trust your taste buds. I was more surprised/impressed by the fact that you can recall those small differences in sugar content from one time too another. I have been the head a development department within a food/beverage company and in that department we had a...

Are saying that you can taste a change in sugar content even if you can't measure said change on the hydrometer? A hydrometer change of 0,001 is roughly a change by 2 g sucrose/liter, that would mean you can taste of change of roughly 1 g/liter from one time to another. Well, I guess Übung macht...

Yeah, I did. Thanks for clearing that up! ;-) Not always easy to be an ESL speaker. (not sure I would say English is my second or even third language).

I haven't heard that problem before with Pasteur red. Anyone else having the same experience? I have used it twice but haven't had any clearing problems.

Wow! How is that even possible?

Other Finer Wine kit Sauvignon Blanc

Huh, doesn't sound as it's crisp, elegant, and fresh as I expect a Sauvignon blanc to be. Color do matter to me (at least) Agreed

    Wine kit for sparkling wine

I too have went away from bottle carbonation and do exactly like you. But I can''t dispense it from the keg because I carbonate the wine heavily and no matter how long my serving tube (3/16") is, I will get to much foam (I tried with over 10 meter). And hence, the wine will only be...

But if the kit maker sell kits stating it is from a named country and even a certain area in that country for their high end kits, isn't that controlled by law in Canada or the US? I would expect you to have some law against false advertising including geographic origin. And that companies, the...

Other FWK - very fast ferment

I would have guessed it was because you are using starter in combination with not being able to maintain the temperature. But of cause, a high nutrient level also promotes fast fermentation. A white fermented at 27°C is pretty high, in such a case I would have opt for not using a starter. I have...

    red blend ideas

I believe the grapes has to be grown in Tuscany, not anywhere in Italy. Since "Super Tuscan" isn't a defined blend but only denotes a wine made of grapes from Tuscany that may use non indigenous grapes, why use it at all? Unless the grapes are grown in Tuscany that is. Amateurs can call their...

    red blend ideas

On a side note, the rules in EU are somewhat different from the US ones; they need at least 85% of the grape variety mentioned. If they use the name of two or more varieties on the label, they must add up to 100%.

    Other Extended Maceration article

So two experts (Tim and Gail) has different view on EM. Hmmm... Anyway, thanks for sharing. Btw this part of the qoute " there is still a risk of exposing the wine to bacteria if left in the fermenter too long. " Is Gail referring to bacteria already in the fermenter? I mean before dosing it...

RJ Spagnols RJS Restricted Quantities French Cab 2021

But the Finer Wine kit can't be a FRENCH Cabernet since their grapes is from California only. Sorry for stating the obvious but having the ability to buy kits where the grapes comes from different origins is, at least for me, very important. YMMV
