What are your plans for the spring harvest?

Always forget the 18lb lugs in spring. Make that 8 lugs of cab sauv I'll be doing. Those prices are up slightly I believe from last year.

What are your plans for the spring harvest?

My plan this spring is smaller than lasts. Thinking of 4 lugs of SA cab sauv grapes, free run those and then 2 juice buckets on the remaining.

Glyphosate found in 19 of 20 beers, wines tested

That's not what this guy says. https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/10/health/monsanto-johnson-trial-verdict/index.html

Glyphosate found in 19 of 20 beers, wines tested

If I lived by beer and wine only, I don't think there would be a concern, I will never reach the 39,420,00 bottle in my lifetime. I'll probably fall a few bottles short. But If this is in wine and beer. What are the amounts in produce? Meat/poutry? Processed foods? Neigbor's lawn and...

Winemaking: what % science what % art - poll

Science can explain the components of the art and their interactions. Science can help guide the art process. Science can quantify the final art product. Art can benefit from the science. The art existed before science for a very long time. Bur if someone wants the whole thing can be...

    Wine re-bubbling after 9 months

Forgot you had 9 months in the title, chances of it still going through MLF are less likely.

    Wine re-bubbling after 9 months

I'm assuming by your mention of malo you added MLB? MLF might not have finished and with temp rise is continuing or it is degassing from the temp rise. If it's still going through MLF it's best to wait. If it's degassing you could rack onto chips and the racking will help degass further...

    Thoughts on Crusher/De-stemmers?

Like others have said it depends on how much you plan to do. I do between 200 and 400lbs in the spring and again in the fall. A manual crusher is fine. Just when the cranking is starting to burn my arms I'm done.

Not too soon to start thinking about 2019 Fall Grapes

For me it's too early to think about 2019 fall grapes, that's cause I'm thinking about spring 2019 grapes from South Africa and Chile. Definitely will do grapes from SA but might try the juice buckets as well. All my spring juice buckets to date have been from Chile. White guy or red guy...

    Vinmetrica SC-100 vs SC-300

Calibrated the SC-300 for pH and then tested pH on 3 wines. zin 3.49, carmenere/malbec 3.75 and Pinotage 4.09. It calibrated pretty much on the money. TA and SO tomorrow. Small steps.

    Vinmetrica SC-100 vs SC-300

Going to use this tomorrow for the first time. Feeling like I'm 8 again with my first chemistry kit. A little intimidated as well. Think I got everything I need. Have a few various size beakers as well, not in photo.

    Chilean blend help

This site has been hugely helpful to me as well. The merlot/cab sauv/cab fr blend could be a very good blend. But you might want to consider going with a more South American centric grape within the blend. Maybe a blend of merlot/cab sauv/malbec or merlot/cab sauv/carmenere or malbec/cab...

    Barrel thoughts

So far I do nothing to the outside other than spritz with kmeta. Does coating or treating the exterior of the barrel inhibit or affect micro-ox in anyway? Just tasted the carmenere/malbec in barrel for six weeks, can smell the oak pretty strongly, but it does not taste over oaked at this...

    Vinmetrica SC-100 vs SC-300

Reading through the 300's manual for the second time. Trying to get my head around everything before I plunge. I have both a 25ml and 10ml burett. Stand also. But don't have a magnetic stirrer yet. I'm seeing them range from $29 to 200. Any reason not to get the cheap one? Is...
