    2022 Roussanne "Orange Wine"

I did filter (Polish Pads) with my four plate Buon Vino - I do normally filter white wines as any particulate is unsavory to the drinker. I don't filter red wines, however. But, will say, it was pretty clean going into the filtration system.

    2022 Roussanne "Orange Wine"

Thanks for asking - it’s very good. It will continue to improve. The wedding is in May so I’m hoping the next 4 months really has a great effect. I wish you could get a bottle…

    Post your labels here

I'm others will agree, but I really like the look of your labels. They're simple, witty and clean. I applaud you!

    Normacorc lesson learned

I have used Nomacorcs exclusively for red wine for three seasons. I too have had some corks not seat well but it's because of ullage, or not providing enough space between the wine level and the bottom of the fitted cork. Because these closures are so air tight, attention to proper ullage is a...

Malolactic Fermentation: When do you introduce bacteria?

Such an interesting collection of words to read, and words that don't match my personal experience. I've never had a MLF not finsih using CH16. When I say finish, I don't mean limp across the finish line.

    2022 Roussanne "Orange Wine"

Here's a proof of the label for the Orange Wine. We've decided to name it Golden. It will be bottled in standard flint punted Bordeaux 750ml bottles. Label will be printed on cream linen textured stock. Everything outside the pink line will be cut away and the pink line will be removed in...

    Competition for hobby winemakers 2023

@ibglowin - this is a LOL…. And, you intuitively picked up on my point and question. Alcohol is not legal to ship. The one time I tried to ship labeled wine via UPS, it never made it to the destination nor did I ever hear anything. It just vanished. So, unless we can personally drop off...

Malolactic Fermentation: When do you introduce bacteria?

I thought I would start an open discussion on when to introduce bacteria for the malolactic fermentation (MLF) when fermenting wine from fresh or frozen grapes. Note: MLF is not suggested for kit winemaking. Personally, I have a tremendous success adding the bacteria during alcoholic...

    2022 Carménère late harvest

That's right. I wouldn't check again until it's been 4-5 more weeks. Post AF, MLF can take several weeks to a few months. As the namesake of your parents' sailboat says...

    2022 Carménère late harvest

LOL, @SCAndy - I've received more than one comment on my use of the chrom paper.... The tartaric, malo and lactic are always at the bottom, middle and top respectively. I find no reason to add the standards. You should know that most of the time I co-inoculate the bacteria after the first...

NorCal, this is a fun resolve to what I know was gut wrenching confusion, second guessing and otherwise towering disappointment. I'm happy for you!

    I'm Thankful For You!

Today is Thanksgiving. Most people think of being thankful as a reaction to circumstances and situations. But actually, being thankful should come as the choice of recognizing there are reasons to be thankful, even in the toughest of events. It's EASY for me to be thankful for this site and...

    Richard

I wrote this a few years ago after meeting a lonely fisherman on a chilly Thanksgiving morning on the central coast of California near Monterey Bay. As you know, this week is Thanksgiving. I'm with my family. My children are here. We're drinking wine, sharing stories and having a grand time...

    2022 Carménère late harvest

Update: First Taste I just tasted the wine for the first time tonight. Wow, it's really good. When I say that, what I mean is that both batches are really good. However, they are different. The one with Oenos bacteria added is WAY more complex. The one with CH16 is single dimensional -...
