    Trellis method suggestions

Hello All, we're getting ready to install the trellis system for our new small vineyard and are looking for thoughts on what method of trellis to use. We're planting 39 vines each of the following; Chardonel, St. Vincent, Marquette. Double A Vineyards (source of the vines) recommends MWC (mid...

    Sodium metabisulphite

As long as it still has the potent smell. (Again assuming your asking about potassium meta, not sodium Meta). That’s according to what we learned at Musto’s wine making boot camp.

    Sodium metabisulphite

If your asking about potassium metabisulphite, we were tought that once mixed, as long as it still has it’s potent smell, it’s good for cleaning. In regards to the powder for use directly in the wine, about 1 year once the package is open. If you meant sodium meta, sorry for the providing the...

    End Post source

Hello folks, Looking for a source for end posts in the North East Connecticut area. Turning out to be a little more difficult to source than I expected. I would like round wood posts preferably 6 inch (or more) in diameter, by 8 ft long. The small Vineyard we are planting this spring will...

    If you did it again?

Hello Sage, Choices were based on what we like and what we can grow here in North East Connecticut. Chardonel for white that gives us options including Oak and Malo - closest varietal to Chardonnay that we can grow. St. Vincent - Chianti like, one of our favorites. Marquette because the local...

    If you did it again?

It’s actually a 5 ft bush hog. I used it to clear heavy brush, bitter sweet, wild roses and willows with 2-1/2 inch diameter trunks from the vineyard area (and another 1 acre area - behind the old chicken coop you can see in the pic - future additional vineyard if all goes well) with no problem...

    If you did it again?

Decisions made and order placed for this spring. 39 Marquette 39 St. Vincent 39 Chardonel The small vineyard is plowed and the soil is tested. We had nearly non stop rain and then immediately frozen ground so we couldn’t get the trellis and watering system in yet so will get it done as soon...

    If you did it again?

The local vineyards in our area this summer are offering; Whites - Traminette, Cayuga, Prairie Star Reds - St. Croix, Marquette, Marechal Foch. In Connecticut we have a system of "Farm Vineyards". It is apparently the only way to make wine to sell at a...

    If you did it again?

Hello, I'm in the process of prepping soil for spring planting in north east Connecticut. My question is to others that are growing in this or a similar climate (zone 6). We are going to start with about 60 vines (30 red/ 30 white), and have room for significantly more in the future. If you...
