WineXpert Riesling Ice Wine Style - HELP!!!!

IMO, Winexpert Selection Speciale kits are NOT a good choice for newcomers to the kit world. The basic problem is that the instructions cover too many possibilities. I think if I was making one of these kits, I'd make a couple of copies of the instructions and go over them with a highlighter...

WineXpert Riesling Ice Wine Style - HELP!!!!

1.200 is not readable on any wine making hydrometers. Mine maxs at 1.150. Since I'm concerned that you are not reading your hydrometer correctly, I am going to refer you to this reference thread. http://www.winemakingtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16574 According to the online instructions...

    Investment Choices

$1000 of wine at $10 = 100 bottles. Where do you get $2 a bottle for recycling???

    Juice Pail Fizz

It could just be CO2 being released, if the wine was not degassed. Did you taste the wine? If so, did it taste fizzy on the tongue? Steve

    Raspberry wine

Campden is NOT yeast nutrient. It actually will stun the yeast, thus having the opposite affect. Why are you not getting hydrometer readings? How is the hydrometer floating in the must/wine? You may wish to review this thread. http://www.winemakingtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16574 Steve

    RGJ = real grape juice?

    Fontana verses cellar craft

Malolactic fermentation (aka MLF) and kits is not a good thing. The Cellar Craft Showcase should be much better than the Fontana 28-day kit, especially if aged a few months (or years). Steve

    Vineco passport questions

It is my understanding that Vineco uses a different type of bentonite than RJS. [Yes, there are MANY different grades/types/whatever of bentonite. Back in about 2000, RJS kits had three different, visually and instruction wise, types of bentonite.] In my experience, stirring vigourously the...

Wine kits, the included yeast, and temp

Depending on the exact kit, the yeast will probably be EC-1118. I don't think it will be affected too much by that temperature (except slower fermentation). The big issue may be degassing as warmer liquids release CO2 easier than cooler liquids. Let us know the EXACT kit when you're further...

    Water quanity

On the surface a conflicting statement. HE kits -> High End kits?? Thought about it a bit and remembered the Heritage Estates kits from RJS which are a low-end 6.3L kit. Possibly available in Canada only. Steve

WineXpert question about my ice wine style kit

Don't do anything until you are CERTAIN that fermentation has stopped. Take an sg reading every day until the sg is constant for 2-3 days before continuing. Steve

RJ Spagnols Winery Series Australian Pinot Noir

If you throw the dried grape skins in loose, you may have a problem racking the wine to carboy. I have a couple of stainless steel gadgets from a restaurant supply store to get the grape skins out before racking. However, it's a bit more work than having the skins in a bag. Steve

Festa Juice / Magnotta - experience?

Thank you for the info. I had thought about making one of these probably about 6 years ago. However, the people in the nearest Magnotta store were not very knowledgable about them, and if I recall rightly they had to be ordered for delivery to the store. Given that I didn't own a 5 US gallon...

Recommended vineyards Niagara on the lake

One winery that I should have mentioned is the Niagara College Teaching Winery. Technically it is located in Niagara-on-the-Lake but it's closer to St Catherines. I was reminded because we had their 2009 Dry Riesling with dinner (bought a couple or more years ago). As my wife said "nice...

    Vineco Kenridge Showcase Line

Note that there are TWO KenRidge lines...KenRidge Classic and KenRidge Showcase. Make sure that the answer was about the right line. Originally you asked about an "alternate sourced" kit. Since Vineco and Winexpert are both owned by Global Vintners, it is possible that the source is the...
