I was only talking about a sip, when I put some in a glass to check for clarity. The instructions say it will take maybe 12 days. But that brings up another question -- would it be of benefit to let the wine stay in the carboy even after it clarifies? Or does it need to be taken off the...
I would assume that they include skins when they deem it necessary, since they do include them in some of their kits.
As an update, fermentation wen very quickly. Just 8 days to get SG below 1.0. On the 11th day, I degassed, added the clarifying and stabilizing chemicals. Now just waiting...
Just embarked on my first try at winemaking. I bought a Mosti Mondiale Nero D'Avola All-Juice kit. But mu brother-in-law says it is unusual that it doesn't contain a pack of grape skins. Can anyone enlighten me on whether there should be skins> Or why there wouldn't be skins or wouldn't need...
Vegetable gardening, cooking, BBQ (smoking), gaming, and now going to try my hand at winemaking.
Oh, yeah, working ongetting my old 1967 MGB roadster running as well as can be hoped, and restored to original condition.
Thanks. Was just wondering because my B-I-L couldn't figure out why they would have you rack AND transfer the sediment. So, until I get some experience making wine, I guess I will follow instructions to the letter.
Since they say to splash into the carboy, I guess that is to get aeration then? Any way to do that in the primary fermenter? Pump out with the wine going right back into the primary? I don't want to do things that are unneccessary but, since this is my first winemaking try, I want to get it...
This step only calls for racking into the carboy with the sediment. Afte the specific gravity has gone down below 1.0 for 3 days, then it calls for racking back into the primary fermenter without the sediment and stirring to remove the C02. That is when clearing and stabilizing agents are...
I am waiting on my first kit to start making wine. It is a Mosti Mondiale All Juice Nero D'Avola. I printed out the pdf instructions for it and one step has me confused.
Here is what the instructions say. After primary fermentation, "When the specific gravity reaches 1.010-1.020, you can...
I will make the wine in the garage during the cooler months (at least the primary fermentation). I do have two extra bedrooms if it gets too warm out there.
Yes, as in airlock. The instructions for the kit I am getting say fill the airlock with potassium metabisulphate. But I figured that is just to make sure it is sanitized. So I was wondering if the diluted (not straight) Star-San could be used as the liquid in the airlock. Never thought of...
Yeah, have owned this one since 1983. It had sat in my garage for almost 20 years before I got to working on it. Have had it out for a couple of short drives, but still a work in progress.
Hi all,
I just found this forum through a search.
I am getting ready to embark on my first wine making journey. I borrowed my brother-in-law's wine making equipment kit and have just ordered my first ingredient kit. Mosti Mondiale All Juice Nero D'Avola. That kit and the Star-san I rodered...
Rather than starting a whole new discussion -- is it OK to use the Star-San solution in the "bubbler?
Thanks, I'm new here and about to embark on the first try at wine making.
