    What's in your glass tonight?

Tonight the feature wine is*** A Mauro Viglio 2019 Barbera D'Alba A nice, inky deep red wine...15%...dry...and for some reason the bouquet has hints of ArmiCarb ( sprayed my vineyard earlier today ) still, a nice wine!

My experience with the All-in-one pump

I bought an AIO from Steve several years ago , using it anytime I transfer or bottle my wine. It is easy to setup and use, and it just WORKS! I'm totally satisfied with mine.

The first 18 holes are kind of tough, but usually do okay on the 19th hole.

New crusher destemmer added to my vineyard

My Grifo crusher/destemmer doesn't have a variable speed motor, and I don't have a problem with it at all. I'm not sure it's needed. BUT if you really want to vary the speed, consider plugging it into a Variac autotransformer. Anything electrical that you plug into one will allow you to reduce...

    My worst fear...realized.

The glass was most likely 'cracked' by a stress fracture, caused by hot/cold shock...OR it just could have been bumped a little too hard and sent a stress fracture through the glass...seperating later after time. I've had one carboy fracture on me over the years ( 20 years...wow ) i attributed...

    The 2024 crop year

I planted my rows pretty much in an East to West orientation, allowing one side of the rows to get The Sun . I use a basic VSP trellis style....one lower fruiting/cordon wire, a smaller pair of catch wires above that, and a top wire. I use a drip line watering system that is actually on the...

    Early Powdery Mildew

You are finding out what I found out years ago...powdery mildew will wipe out your grapes! The Armicarb or Kaligreen to put the PM in check was recommended to me by a friend who has a large commercial winery/vineyard, and it works. But you still have to keep the sulphur spray going....which for...

I went through a similar experience getting a custom-cut marble vanity top made just last year. Not a cheap way to go, but I thought it was worth the money to make it 'spiffy'. I picked the piece of marble out of a slab, went home, guy comes out and custom measures the vanity with digital 3D...

    The 2024 crop year

My little vineyrd of 45 plants has been doing great so far. They are 15 year-old vines that have pretty much 'rooted' down deep, so I haven't had to irrigate just yet. I just finished up pulling leaves on the shady side of the rows to let the canopy 'breathe' and to also let my sulphur spray...

I use a one foot-long 1"x2" piece of wood to prop up one side of the carboy.

    Vineyard Floor Opinions Please

I let grass grow between my rows, but I keep it mowed a bit...not too short. My theory is I'd rather have the ground around the grapevines healthy and growing. Worms and things help dirt from 'dying'. I mow between rows and run a weed-eater between plants, occasional hand-pulling grasses that...
