    Sprays

Mildew will hide in the bark of grapevines, and once you've had a mildew problem you most likely will always have a presence of mildew. You *can* spray a fungicide to kill mildew spores, but usually the thing to do is preventative measures....spraying sulphur or another type of chemical that...

    Sprays

I live in a humid area of the Pacific Northwest, and mildew is always something to guard against here. I spray wettable sulphur every 2 weeks starting before buds appear, when buds appear, at bud 'break' and then every 2 weeks UNTIL about 5 weeks before harvest. You don't want a bunch of...

    Wine Logs

I keep a small notebook in which I write my date of harvest, yield, Brix and pH . Each entry after that is dated and then commented on what has been done...crush/destemmed, pressed, yeast and other additives used, temperatures, racking, bottling, and anything I feel is pertinent at the time...

    SOME PEOPLE

Some hold firecrackers, light them and then throw them. Some do this and then FORGET to throw them...the point being is if that is what they do, that is what they do. You can't , nor should you, control other people. All you can do is control yourself. Maybe. On a good day. :) Virus...

Where to buy cheap wine bottle

I experienced the same difficulty when bottling, trying to find the 'sweet spot' for the filling wand to stay on top of the punt. But now that I use the All-In-One Pump vacuum unit , it is no longer an issue....big punts...medium punts...no punts... the vacuum fills them all, and in just a...

    Broken carboy

A wine barrel might work. But if you're going to go to all that trouble, you might as well add some sugar, yeast and nutrients and see how it all turns out.

    Spraying after harvest

I continue to spray sulphur after harvest, definitely. The idea is to prevent powdery mildew by staying ahead of it, so yes...continue the spray. Powdery mildew can and will find a home in the bark of the vine, so it is best to stay ahead of it if you can. The nice part about spraying after...

    Bladder press question

I use a 40 L Lancman bladder press and I find that most of the pomace/cake will stay stuck to the mesh bag liner , and that I can usually get most of it out by slipping the bag up and out, or picking the cake off the bag chunk by chunk and disposing it in a bucket or wheelbarrow. It usually does...
