    Bird Netting and Wasp control

I just put new bird netting on my grapes and I love it because its woven and doesnt get caught in vines or itself. The holes are also very small (1/4" I think) and birds cant get caught. My question is could they be shading the vines too much? My guess is that it's a non-issue, but wanted to...

    Harvesting Marquette

I am in Connecticut zone 6 and I have some marquette vines that are at about 17 Brix. Being new to this, my main question is how do I know exactly when is best to harvest them? Do I keep testing them until brix have stopped increasing? What Brix level are they capable of producing in my area...

Looking for local CT wine maker...

I would love to make wine with them and not see them go to waste. I dont have a sense of exactly how much I have and how much I would need. Looking to learn more about the process as well. Thanks for the reply!!!

Looking for local CT wine maker...

I'm wondering if anyone in the CT area is planning on making wine and can use my grapes. Most of my vines are 2-3 years old now. Last year I just ate what I could and wasted the rest. This year I have more, but still not enough to make a batch. I dont have all the equipment yet and would also...

    Japanese beetles help

I use Astro (Permethrin) and it works well. Unless you have time to spray literally every few days, Neem wont control beetles nearly as well.

Thanks. It's very minor, and I have a good program in place (as long as I find the time to spray).

    Question about TWC training...

Thanks for the reply. I have been watching some videos on mechanized pruning of TWC vines and it looks like they just cut anything growing outward and upward while combing them down to give them the form they want. I have a small set up, so I will keep playing with them.

    Question about TWC training...

I have a backyard vineyard of 25 vines. A few varieties are on TWC: America, Baco Noir and Marquette. They are on their 3rd year and most have established cordons and spurs. They are doing great, but the shoots seem to all be growing upward. I have read that certain grape varieties naturally...

    Disease on 'America'

I haven't even tried looking it up, to be honest. Thought it might be something I can get a quick answer to, but apparently not. Thanks.

    Organic grape berry moth control?

I'm a rookie when it comes to grape vines, but an Arborist by trade. I dont know that Imidacloprid should be used on anything to be consumed. Maybe grapes for wine making are a different story. Couple questions: What is PD and how would Imidacloprid keep sapsuckers from pecking at your vines???

    Single vine trellis

I decided to just use galvanized chain link posts. I plan to use the horizontal post as a trellis wire and wrap the vine around it. Thanks!

    Single vine trellis

Yea good point. Because of the location, my wife wanted wood cause it looks nicer. Maybe I can use a steel chainlink post across the top of the two wood posts, since that wont be too visible once the vine covers it. Thanks!

    Single vine trellis

Cool ideas. I guess what I am asking first and foremost is will the Doug fir posts last long enough, and if/when they need to be replaced, is that even possible without butchering the vine, since it will be wrapped around the post???

    Single vine trellis

I have one additional Marquette vine from planting my vineyard that I decided to plant on the rear foundation of my house. There is no room to set up a traditional trellis, and I dont want to spend any money on more equipment. I have some 8' long 3" dia round Doug fir posts i treated with...
