RJ Spagnols RQ - Tjungu (Australia)

I bottled this wine on 4/23/16, but forgot to add the extra 1/4 tsp of meta. I've been drinking, sharing, and enjoying, the wine over the past few months. If I'm down to a dozen or so bottles, should I: continue drinking and sharing until they start turning? open the bottles, add meta, and...

Other Does it make sense to buy kits a certain time of year?

Hi All, I just placed an order to buy the WE Brunello kit, but then it occurred to me that I'm probably buying a kit made from grapes harvested around a year ago. Is this a valid concern? Example - grapes in Italy are harvested each fall, so if I buy a kit in July, August, or September...

    WineXpert Anyone know for sure???

Actually, I was only referring to the extra that the kit company says to add if I plan on aging more than 6 months.

    WineXpert Anyone know for sure???

just checked my notes and... Just happened to be reviewing my notes...realized I had forgotten to add the potassium meta to this batch. Now I'm more confused as to whether the omission is why I like this wine?:?

Other any Raleigh, NC area members?

Hi all, I've done Google searches and looked at sites like Meet Up, but can't find any groups of local wine kit makers to share wines, information, etc with. Is there anyone out there from my area that would be interested in swapping some bottles? I've made 7 or 8 kits so far (mostly...

    375 bottles

Why are 375 bottles usually mentioned for the port wines? Because they're sweet, strong, or both? What's the downside to using 750s? I've hesitated trying a flavored port kit because I don't have any 375 size bottles. I did just see a sale that seems kick-***, but the shipping is what kills me.

    WineXpert Anyone know for sure???

Tnuscan - I just opened some bottles of RJS Tjungu (only 3 months in the bottle) over the last week on vacation with family - no kit taste for me! Bizarre. Just some more info that may help you on your quest.

RJ Spagnols RQ - Tjungu (Australia)

Just opened Tjungu only 3 months after bottling; very pleased. A crowd-pleaser for sure. And it didn't have that taste that may be what 's known as KT (kit taste?) that I've noticed in almost every kit I've made so far.:h

WineXpert Should I skip over step 2?

I would like some opinions or advice please. I'm making the Winexpert World Vineyard Pink Moscato. I started on 6/3/16, but it's still in the primary bucket. The instructions call for me to rack into a carboy after 5-7 days, which I didn't do. Should I just go to step 3, which calls for...

    WineXpert Anyone know for sure???

I know what you mean Dave, I'm new to home wine making, my first kit bottled last September. I also notice the same taste element in all the (red) wines I've made so far. I don't taste anything similar in any commercial wine I've ever had. I understand that I shouldn't expect much...

WineXpert Will multiple delays spoil my wine?

So, according to this part of your reply "I think the only real step during a wine kit process that shouldn't be kept waiting is the time once it is done fermenting at it's final gravity to transferring it into a topped up container. This is to prevent the wine to become oxidized by too much...

WineXpert Will multiple delays spoil my wine?

Through a recent rash of events, my current batch (started 4/3/16) of WineXpert LE Mosaic Red has had longer time between each step. Specifically, after Step 1 - primary fermentation, rather than the "5-7 days" until Step 2, it was 14 days. Then, instead of "10 days" until Step 3, I was 24...

RJ Spagnols Cause of off smell?

Yes, it is bubbling away nicely, so I'll keep a closer eye (and nose) on it from here!

RJ Spagnols Cause of off smell?

No, but it seems to have dissipated.

RJ Spagnols Cause of off smell?

I'm 3 days into primary fermentation of my 2nd Cellar Classic Winery Series Super Tuscan, and it doesn't smell like the first 4 or 5 assorted wine kits that I've made so far. The first 2 days it had an off odor, on the unpleasant side. The last day has seemed closer to the smell I'm used to...

WineXpert How long can kit wines age?

I'm a newbie, so assume I'm just following the instructions to a T. I greatly prefer red wines, so let's focus on them. It seems that I shouldn't expect to open my first bottle until 3 months minimum after bottling. After that, it seems as though it depends on many factors how long I CAN age...

Carboys, cleaning, and sanitizing - the final word?

Like anything today, and especially with the internet, there always seems to be so many opinions that it gets confusing. I'm new to this, and all I want to do is to ascertain what is the best, (also easiest, cheapest?) way to clean and sanitize! According to this link from who appears to be a...

    RJ Spagnols Yeast Selection

Newbie here, but I somehow have 2 kits of RJS Super Tuscan. The kits come with the EC-1118 yeast. I don't want to overthink this, or make it crazy, but in looking at what seems to be an authoritative yeast guide here, it seems that EC-1118 is preferred for whites, not reds. As an experiment, I...

    WineXpert potassium metabisulfite taste

I'm referring to the "extra dossage the instructions refer to if you intend aging the wine for more than 6 months". I figure I will use the bottles without the "extra" during the first 6 months after bottling, and save the batch "with the extra" after 6 months time.
