    Primary fermentation question

Day 3 and the fermentation is doing very well, so all looks good. I know about the SG needing to be below 1.0 but I wondered if the cessation of foaming would also be an indication that it is ready for secondary fermentation.

    Primary fermentation question

Thank you. I guess I'll see what my result is in a few months. I'm keeping good notes, and will learn from this first time through.

    Primary fermentation question

Before pitching the yeast, my s.g. was 1.112. Will I need to add a second yeast packet to overcome this s.g or will it ferment alright?

Just bought a home with a small backyard vineyard. I'm looking for advice on varieties.

I have found Niagara makes a wonderful sweet wine. They are also very prolific. I have two 4 year old vines and I harvested 27lbs from them this fall.

    Primary fermentation question

I have 18lb Niagara grapes, 8 1/2 lb sugar, 2 gallon water 2 quart juice from last years harvest, pectin enzyme, yeast nutrient and 5 crushed Camden tablets in a 5 gallon bucket. I've been hand crushing some grapes and setting skins aside to make some head room in the bucket. My question is when...

    Secondary fermenter

Looks like I'm going to have too much wine going into the secondary fermentation stage and I don't another glass jar available. Can I use a plastic gallon jug from vinegar or another kitchen product, or does it need to be glass?

Crushing Niagara, or use a juicer? Help please

I'm going to be making my first wine from my own Niagara grapes this year. I've read that with Niagara, you can leave the juice and the skin together to get a nicer flavor. Can someone confirm that? I have a Breville centrifugal juicer which I used last year to juice my grapes then froze the...

Please advise me on Niagara grapes

Last year, I didn't have enough grapes to make wine, so I put some through a juicer, froze the juice and froze a few gallons whole. But after pruning my grapes almost to death this spring, I've got more than enough grapes for 5 gallons! I'll be adding the frozen juiced ones, but I have a...

    Mixing frozen grapes with fresh?

Last year my vines produced a fair crop of Niagara grapes but still not enough to make a batch of wine, so I pressed some and froze the juice, and froze the rest whole. I wanted to know if I can mix this year's harvest with the frozen ones when I make wine this fall.

    New person from Tacoma WA

I've made wine from the blackberries that grow wild, but hope to have enough grapes from my vines to make some this fall.

    Too late to plant cuttings?

I've been physically prevented from working on my vines until today. I had a great time pruning my vines back. They've all started sprouting leaves, so I wondered if I could plant them at this time. I stuck some into some dirt and are keeping them in the sun. We've entered a week of wet...

    New person from Tacoma WA

Greetings. While I've made wine in the past, and have a couple Niagara vines for wine, I'm mainly interested in propagating my vines to give to people. I'm 72 and not able to do much, but want to bless others with the abundance I've received.
