    First try

Often, the first wine ever tried is a "Welch's concord grape" wine. It is by far the easiest and most enlightening recipe. You can make a one gallon brew and be tasting a drinkable wine within a month, although all wines are better aged. Welch's Grape Juice Wine 3 This is an easy recipe that...

    Joe's ancient mead

Thx, Grabo. Wish I hadn't put the pith in there.

Island Mist Peach Chardonnay starting SG

Yes . it cleared beautifully. A little on the light side . 8.66% but the taste is really nice. I think that the 5 galloon idea would be best and if I do it again, I plan to do that.

    First attempt at homemade wine

Go ahead and take the SG then replace the airlock.. Go to the Brewersfriend.com site and use the ABV app that they have there, This will tell you the Alcohol By Volume. Really nothing bad about a light wine. , unless you intend to get someone drunk. I have a very nice Geruztraminer that is only...

share your favorite tips. here's mine

I have several old black biker tee shirts. When brewing a fresh batch, I toss one onto the carboy to block out the bright lights in my office. This essentially allows me to fulfill the 'keep from the light' recommendation. Never bottle drunk!

    Wine gravity @ .995 in 7 days?

If you need a carboy, Wal Mart has 1, 3 and 5 gallon water jugs for sale. Usually near the water refill station. They are relatively cheap and food quality plastic. You'll need a #10 drilled bung and an airlock.

    First attempt at homemade wine

First let me welcome you to the forum. Did you take a specific gravity reading at the beginning ? Is this a wine kit for Pinot Noir. Without a hydrometer it is impossible to know the alcohol content. Most of the kit wines turn out light and are generally meant to be consumed young. Does the wine...

    Zork Availability

The only advantage that I have found is that you don't need the cork screw Personally, I find them to be expensive and they make the bottle look cheap. There are plenty of fine methods to seal your wine and corks are more traditional. Given that, you can ind them listed on Amazon and Norcal.

What do Camden tablets do and when should they be used.

Incidentally, The name is spelled Campden Tablets. I do not understand why so many people misspell the name, but many do. Listen to Johnd. He knows his stuff.

    Confused and baffled!

I just bottled a white cranberry/ apricot that seemed like it was never going to stop making the SO2. I would stir it and tiny bubbles kept rising. I kept it under an airlock and it did finally finish into a very nice wine. All I can think of is, I didn't add any nutrient or yeast energizer at...

Making a White Cranberry/ Peach wine. Advise please

After a solid 3 months I bottled this wine. To my surprise it turned out to be a decent semi dry wine.

Primary fermenter for 1 gallon batches?

Wal Mart sells water bottles in 1, 3, and 5-gallon sizes. Look at the water refilling station . They are food grade, clear and have lids. I use the 3 gallon size all the time.

    Joe's ancient mead

I started this recipe last night and followed the instructions with one exception. I used a packet of Red Star Cote des Blanc yeast instead of the bakers yeast. I read on another tread that the pith in the orange causes a bitter taste. If I had known , I would have zested the orange peel and...

    Joes ancient orange mead

I put this recipe together last night and wish I had read this subject stream here before I got started. I would have peeled the orange and zested the peeling leaving behind the pith. I used a packet of Red Star Cote des Blanc yeast, which has an alcohol tolerance of around 12%. I intend to...

    Blackberry Mead (First Attempt)

I know this is a very old post, but how did your Blackberry mead turn out. I am curious and would like to try my hand at this recipe. An 11% mead would be fine with me.
