Newbie help: waxy something coming off corks?

You done right by not using them. Way too much a risk, at this point in time you’ve probably a lot of time invested.

    Hello to All!

Welcome! Lots of knowledgeable winemakers on here. I too am in a learning curve and have picked up a lot of good points from here.

    Wine documentary / series

I had my gallbladder removed (no problems) last July. The aftermath required me to do a lot of sitting around. I saw a few videos on YT that as a new comer to the wine world I found pretty interesting. They went all around the world talking to folks. I don’t remember the name but I can find it...

    Clearing short cut?

Thanks, Yeah “patience” is killing me! I see the carboys everyday so it seems like an eternity. So from 20s to 60s wouldn’t mess up the taste?

    Clearing short cut?

I remember reading something about this on here before. Here’s my thought/question; The nights have been in the low 40s around here. I have some carboys that are 3, 4, and 5 months in the process. If I were to sit one or more of these out at night and then bring them back in 1) would it...

    Smelling can fool you

Night before last I was in my shed. I remembered I had some leftover must/leeves from a racking. Maybe 1 1/2 quarts. I had let the wine and the sediment separate then poured the leftover liquid in a jug a couple weeks earlier. When I opened it I smelled a "ruined" fruit smell. So I'm thinking...

recycled bottle post-cleaning logistics (for temporary storage)

You can also put them in a small gas tank, shake it violently and it'll get the rust out as well

What in the world is this?

How cool was cool? Interested in hearing the replys of the veteran wine makers. I can see it clearing better but would that speed up things toward bottling?

    Bird netting recommendation

I have some old time red and bronze scuppernongs that I layered and grew. For the last 3 years the deer have been eating these, I thought it was ***** to start with until I put up a security system and caught them walking through my yard. Something's always eating something. Any ideas?

recycled bottle post-cleaning logistics (for temporary storage)

I cleaned some bottles last night using the hot water inside and outside letting them soak for 15-20 minutes. Worked very well except like has been said before, some of that glue refused to give up it's ground. Good tips!

SG increased at end of fermentation?

I'm asking a question that pretty obvious by looking at it - That "Precision Finished Hydrometer" (PFH) appears to be a different animal from the triple scale hydrometer. I have the triple scale - would it be in my best interest for me to invest in a PFH? I plan to make my own wine for many...

recycled bottle post-cleaning logistics (for temporary storage)

I can see the consistency of Peanut Butter holding the oil in place. This method (of holding something on the right spot) is practiced in medicine as well. Thanks

    Wine bottles

I posted this suggestion on another thread, google your state's name and wine trails. I was very surprised at the local wineries here in Alabama.

I'm interested in "how" the pb reacts with the glue - any ideas?
