    Observations of first efforts

Please keep us updated. The true difference won’t show until about 6 months. I did the opposite. I started with two kits that came with RC212 but used EC1118 in one. Mine are about a month apart also. Cheers

Welch's concord with the super-sugar method

Can’t let this thread die. I came across this recipe late last Fall and decided to give it a try. We sampled a concord wine at a local winery and my wife gave me the go ahead to make a sweet “Welch's” wine. I followed the recipe to a tee and the wine finished at the expected 14%. It was...

    Bourbon barrel oak

Do you taste the essence of whisky in using the barrel stave or is it just oak to you?

    Bourbon barrel oak

Found this at the local hardware store. Interesting for sure. As far as I know, They are simply cut-up used bourbon barrels. No idea of age, condition, etc... Wondering if it would be possible to use them in wine making. Sanitizing would be a big challenge I would think. And the fact that...

    Unfermentable

Good plan. I’m my case, the sulfite smell would go away after intense aeriation, but would return a few hours later. Stick with it, good luck!

    Storing Skeeter Pee

I put it in two liter bottles all the time. Regular pop bottles and then store in the fridge so it is ready to go. Great for taking to the lake, a party, the back yard etc...

    Retailer bad experience

Exactly. My take away from this is to trust your gut feeling. If you feel like you are not getting satisfactory service, move on. Don’t let someone hold your hobby, the thing you love, hostage over a few bucks. There are other options out there. In fact after I cancelled my order, I placed...

    Retailer bad experience

Just callceled the order. Product still not in stock with no real way of knowing when they might receive it. I’m fine with the truth, I can work with that. Certainly feel like I was mislead for a couple of weeks leading up to this point. Anyway, moving on.

    Retailer bad experience

Still waiting to see how this works out. Not looking good so far.

    Retailer bad experience

Yes, it’s who you’re thinking of. This is really disappointing because the delay is effecting three separate wines I have underway. It all started when I got a bad pack of kiesesol in an Eclipse kit. WE said they could not ship that to the States due to customs rules so I should contact Label...

    Retailer bad experience

I have ordered almost exclusively from a certain retailer in Kent, Ohio for two years. Had to call customer service for the first time last week and whoa what a nightmare it has been. Three calls, three promises and 10 days later still no shipment on items that I was told were in stock. I...

    WineXpert After taste

Thanks, I racked it, just a regular rack without an attempt to introduce air. It is much better. I think one problem is that when I taste a sample from a carboy, I get just the very top layer. Once mixed a little it was fine, very good in fact. Oh, and a correction to my original post, it’s...

    WineXpert After taste

Just about to bottle a WE LE French Merlot. I would love to let it age another few months but I need the carboy and it is next in line for the honor. Anyway, it is good, I had a glass of it last night. It does however, have a slight aftertaste of soap. Way at the back of my tongue, very...

    Elderberry Winter Experiment

Mine has an smell that I can only describe as earthy. Not musty, not unpleasant but definitely different than any other wines I’ve made.
