    Newbee 2020 Pinot Noir plan

I know I'm a little late to this party, but about your milk crate.... I was going to do that, then I saw the egg crate ceiling light diffusers. I place them over my fermenting bin and two of us go to town. I crushed and destemmed about 1000 pounds this year doing this method. Surprisingly, my...

Don't laugh... I'm a Donkey lacking opposable thumbs. I'm just happy they made the medal in my size 🤣

    Winemakers magazine contest

I would love to, but I make so little there's hardly any left. However, when my 2020 is ready (made more this year), I will reach out. I appreciate it.

    Winemakers magazine contest

For two of the wines I entered the comments were fairly consistent. A third, which I expected a great deal of harsh criticism on, the comments were all over the place.

    Winemakers magazine contest

Got a bronze for my 2019 Pinot Noir. I was kind of bummed (not about the award. That's just cool to have). I was really hoping the judges would provide a bit more critique. They provided some, but being my first competition, I was hoping for more written feedback to assist me with future...

A 2020 Cab Franc journey with fellow WMT member

The traps are designed to attract and kill with extreme prejudice. My traps were emptier than my pockets after 10 minutes of slot play in Vegas. Baffling to me. Maybe it's all the smoke in the air from all the fires.

A 2020 Cab Franc journey with fellow WMT member

I went through crush, fermentation, and press with ZERO fruit flies. Bought all these traps based upon the onslaught last year. Not a single fruit fly this year. My wife was very happy. :)

Homemade vs. Commercial and what I am doing to close the gap

I'm only in my third season of attempting winemaking. I hear the level they are talking in this forum and my eyes roll back into my head. I have a LONG way to go and do much to learn. I better keep reading.

Homemade vs. Commercial and what I am doing to close the gap

So sad to hear this. There are workarounds (as mentioned in my post reply). Unfortunately, I believe they would only work with the smaller boutique wineries who do not need the volume of the larger wineries.

Homemade vs. Commercial and what I am doing to close the gap

We have assisted a local Lodi winery in the past. They said that because of California laws, they were not able to allow us to help, for the reasons stated by @NorCal. Instead, they make it a special event for club members. Those who attend are charged a fee to participate. Darn near went broke...

    Homemade wine press I made

Very impressive. I'm always jealous when I see someone craft something like this. Would love the specs to see if I could create something like this for next season. Well done!

Aside from throwing the yeast in, I didn't do or add anything. Just let the grapes do what they wanted. Despite no clarifying, fining, or filtering, it came out crystal clear with no sediment in the bottles. Aside from the labels, I can't take credit for much, except picking and crushing.... Oh...

Totally subjective. It'll look good on the stupid instagram page we got. Lol but there is a little bit of pride in knowing it was appreciated.

That's awesome! I entered my three creations from last year (second year making wine). Got a bronze for my Pinot Noir. I cannot wait to get the judges notes back to see what kind of improvements they suggest.

    Breathable Carboy Bungs?

I use these following secondary and through aging. Granted, I've only completed 2 bottlings and my longest aging was about 5 months, I really like them. They were recommended to me by a local winery who use them in some of their barrel aging. I'm pretty impressed with their wines, so I guess...

He has brayed about the freedom to breathe freely and without need for face coverings. Sadly, that is all the info he provided... You know... Gotta protect the timeline.
