Volume estimates from grapes to wine

This is great information! Since I am new, I have a question ...Is there are some rough guidelines on the initial post fermentation after pressing for reds? I have a 6.5, 6 and 5 gallon carboys but nothing smaller. Will I need something smaller or larger to capture all the new wine? Note...

Post a Meme, any Meme! (no politics)

I baby sat someone like that. In her twenties she turned into a **** star to pay for her drug addition. She now (years later) is a founder of a Church, a cannabis-worshiping congregation known for its skill at organizing marijuana farmers under the guise of spirituality

What are your "Top 10" including equipment/tips/tricks pertaining to Kit Wine Making?

Below is the link for what I have. There are other brands of controllers that are similar. I attach the probe to the outside of my fermentation vessel by HVAC tape. I got an old apartment size refridge off Craigs list for $100. We put a think piece of plywood for a flat bottom and it just...

What are your "Top 10" including equipment/tips/tricks pertaining to Kit Wine Making?

The lessons that I have learned the hard way from making white wine kits the past year. Goldilocks of sulfide management is hard: The sulfide provided in the kit is to high and strips flavors and potentially overdose with sulfide if you store in carboy and put 1/4 tsp every 3 month. After trial...

    Newbee 2020 Pinot Noir plan

The tools sound like the art part of winemaking. I might ask for more advice if my wine ends up more like a picture by numbers than a piece of art. I did not know about the CO2 aspect of MLF post fermentation, but makes sense. It sounds like a better approach that I will definitely try

    Newbee 2020 Pinot Noir plan

Thanks for the good feedback. Much appreciated!!!! I plan on only doing 100 lb. I have been doing kits the past year and my equipment is stocked for 6/5 gallon temp control. Not sure I want to invest more this year to accommodate a larger batch size. Yes. I will use the hydrometer as the...

4 year old Pinot Noir grapes from a new wine area

Thanks. Yes. Getting to know the grower would be key. They sell thier own fruits and veggies to the public. So a good way to build the relationship.

4 year old Pinot Noir grapes from a new wine area

Question about sourcing fall grapes: I am new to winemaking (kits only for about 1 year) and I found a vineyard 1 hour away that is selling organically grown Pinot Noir grapes directly to local winemakers. However, since it is a new vineyard and new grape area, I am wondering if it would be...

Corona Virus & Day to Day

Yes. I live near Pugent Sound and when Covid hit China there was no real shipping activity that I saw . Typically you can see cargo ships most of the times. I has increased some just as seeing a few plane going to land at SEA, but neither are normal. We were talking to our boat mechanic and he...

    The Bread Thread

Second time making bagels. Easy and much better than store bought. Used this recipe for the dough. Used 1/2 sugar (personal preference). Learned 2 mins for the Yukone and not to make like mash potatoes. 4 min in food processor to get a correct window and 5 oz for each bagel. Total batch is...

Corona Virus & Day to Day

I had to go looking for a study on this topic https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.05.13.092619v2.full.pdf "Here we report on 149 COVID-19 convalescent individuals. Plasmas collected an average of 39 days after the onset of symptoms had variable half-maximal neutralizing titers...

Corona Virus & Day to Day

Only a few months of antibody life does not bode well for a vaccine effectiveness over the long haul. A vaccine is designed for you to create the antibodies to protect yourself. Will everyone in the world need a vaccine every few months? How could we produce that much for everyone to get...

Corona Virus & Day to Day

Below is a link on re-use guidance. My dental hygienist wore a surgical mask over her N95. I just use the N95 mask with a coffee filter underneath so I don't soil the inside and store it in a paper bag for at least 7 days. (similar to the 5 mask rotation timeline also in the following...

Corona Virus & Day to Day

Just remember if someone around you had covid when the mask was on, then there is a potential for the droplets to be on the outside. So when you touch your mask from around your neck to cover your face again, then it could be on your hands. Sanitizer will solve that

Don't mean to hyjack this thread, but I'm really impressed with RJS. I did not expect anything from them but nothing ventured nothing gained. I thought at best I would get a coupon or something along that way. They are sending me a new kit through a US distributor. I liked thier kits before...
