    Need opinions on trellis hardware

I’m going on 11 years with my wire vices. The only ones I lost were in the first year. We’ll when I get back in the vineyard. As for the catch wires, I have mine spread out more like 4-6”. Unless you have really disciplined vines, it may be hard to get them between 2”.

Sanitizing Bottles What do you use (Poll)

You’re not alone. If I know the bottles or equipment is going to sit long enough to dry, I’ll just leave the One step on it. If I’m cleaning and I’m bottling within a short while (say 30 mins), I’ll rinse with water too.

Sanitizing Bottles What do you use (Poll)

Been using one step for many years. Started to use oxy clean for the tougher cleaning situations but always finish with a one step rinse.

    Add Your Backyard Vineyard

These are not the best pictures but you can see how much is pruned. My fruiting wire (bottom wire is 39” off the ground so you can see how much snow we had. The pruned picture is my 1st pruning. I go back and cut each vine back to 2 or 3 buds when there is no threat of frost. I’ll get better...

    Add Your Backyard Vineyard

Learn about the mildews and bugs and how to combat them. Price a small backpack sprayer. The spacing between vines is pretty good so your vines will get plenty of breeze to dry them out after the morning dew. Learn about pruning. First thing to remember is that you can prune the heck out of...

    Motorizing a manual destemmer/crusher

Thanks. I’ll be crushing/destemming about 2000lbs+ this year. Selling grapes to a local d*i*st*ll*ery but he does not have a means to crush/destem and press. My 80L bladder press will be working overtime this fall. 😁

    Motorizing a manual destemmer/crusher

I’ve seen where people have motorized their crusher/destemmer but never have seen a Bill of materials for the conversion. I made the leap and ordered a motor. There are mounting brackets on my manual c/d so I think I’ll just have to fab a plate but need to know if people who have done this used...

    Add Your Backyard Vineyard

I just saw this post. My Lacrescents do not grow very well at all. Japanese Beetles must love them because they get skeletonized very quickly. I should just tear them out but every once in a while, I get a good crop. These vines were mixed in with my Brianna grape vines and I didn’t catch it...

    Retirement VS working

Rocky, We had some similar jobs. I started working in a nursery hoeing acres of rows of trees and shrubs, (where I got the experience for my vineyard 😎) learned how to landscape, worked in grocery stores stocking shelves, mopping the whole thing and checkout, then when old enough, worked at a...

    Retirement VS working

Will retire in 2 years. House will be paid off. That is the only debt. Doing double payments to make this work. 38 years of stress will be enough. Been all over the world and enjoyed it all. 1600 vine vineyard will keep me occupado until I can’t get on the tractor anymore. Will always wear a...

    Pruning to delay harvest

Up here in Wisconsin, I’ll prune my 3 acre vineyard 2 times each spring. The first pruning, I take it down to 5 or 6 buds. This takes a full days work with help and gets the canes out of the way. I do this at the end of March. I have a gas hedger and cut between the fruiting and second wires...
