    Hello from NW Indiana

Thanks. I've lurked on here for a while but recently registered as time is slowly coming back to where I can do hobbies again. I learned having a 4 year old and a 16 month old can really sap your time lol.

Wine Kitz How long should it foam after fermentation begins?

That sounds normal from my experience but I'm still new. 18c is a bit cool room temp for fermentation but during peak the juice will warm up several degrees over room temp. I wouldn't get hung up on temps much I've not seen a change in taste from my kits. What cab kit did you get. Reds take...

    Advice for a beginner

I'm picking out my first juice buckets and grapes for this fall. I'm intending to start easy and expand as time goes on. Right now my plan is Muscat: I'm going to reserve some juice to back sweeten as my wife and I love the sweeter muscato wines. A 6 gallon Merlot Juice bucket with...

    Hello from NW Indiana

Hello. I'm a relatively new wine-o-holic from NW Indiana in the Griffith area. I'm a transplant to the area from South Georgia. I was able to find a local grape and juice supplier in the immediate area so I can't wait to make some non-kit wines though all of the kits I've done have turned out...

Question about juice buckets and frozen must

Unfortunately not. That's why I considered the frozen must. It's expensive compared to the buckets but I thought it would add to the juice just like the grape skin packs to kits.

Question about juice buckets and frozen must

I'm considering that but destemming , crushing, and pressing is a lot. For a small amount to give body but I'm trying to avoid too much time investment. Work and family are keeping me far busier this year than most.

Question about juice buckets and frozen must

So I've found a local supplier who can get juice buckets, grapes, and frozen must. I intend to get some juice buckets this fall and while grapes are not planned I'm considering frozen must as well. The cost of these are expensive and I'm considering blending the juice bucket and frozen must...

    Book suggestions

Thanks. There's a wealth of knowledge on this forum and I've read many of the older threads but I'd like to read some of the books and then ask more later. Meaning I really don't want to ask too many n00bish questions unless I really need to.

    Book suggestions

Any suggested reading for wine making? I'm less interested in growing grapes and more the science behind it. Ph and how it affects things as well as blending. Thanks.

    Making wine from juice buckets

So I've ordered some juice buckets for this fall. Now my next question is how do I prepare them for fermentation when they arrive. The place I ordered from says he simply sulfite waits a day and ferments as is no ph adjustment etc... is this common? What are the common TA, PH numbers for...

WineXpert Question about LE Australia Grenache and Cab with Grape Skin

I saved the 1118 for day 2 but the fermentation was very vigorous before adding that.

Other What would you make again?

White: Winexpert California Mascato (if you like store bought sweet mascato this is a good kit) IceWine: The Showcase Reisling icewine style, Vidal Icewine style Reds: Showcase Merlot, WE California Cab Sav Note: I've yet to make a "bad" kit just I've made some that while good...

    WineXpert Mascato recommendation

The california Mascato. They offer a Pink Mascato, I didn't know until you mentioned it. I did the 1 gallon kit at first the wife loved it then made a full kit and we drank all of that and I'm considering a higher end kit. We like ours to be sweet like the winexpert kit.

    WineXpert Mascato recommendation

One of the first kits I did was the winexpert world vineyard mascato. It includes an f-pack to sweeten the wine and to this day this is one of my wife's favorite kits I've made. I'm curious are there any other mascato kits that include a bit more juice or would be higher end to look at? The...
