    Tartrite Crystals in my wine

Okay, I'll leave it go another week just to be sure. I'll also pull another sample and see if the TA has dropped. That is my goal. (It is done as a dry red and I never end up needing to put those in the frig 'cuz they disappear first. :) TA was 6.8 and I'd like to dial it back a little...

    Tartrite Crystals in my wine

So I seeded with cream of tartar (Marquette wine, pH 3.54) and used 2 teaspoons for 6.5 gallon carboy. Temperature was at 23 degrees and still is. That was 6 days ago now. What should I expect to see? I see some small white flecks sticking to the side near the bottom. I pulled a sample...

    Tartrite Crystals in my wine

Question: is the cream of tartar just the regular grocery store stuff, or is there something different about it? I've never done the seeding thing before. Any tricks to adding it?

inconsistent fruit set vine to vine

I have a soil and petiole same pending, I'll posts the results in case it helps someone. I am also having some clusters dry up and die as if stem damaged or something....maybe mechanical damage? I had a few vines come off their wires and get man-handled, but I can't remember which ones...

    Best sprayer for 50 vines?

I do have an ATV....what $150 sprayer are you talking about....the ones I see have "spray the lawn" type arms rather than taller uprights? I'm prob. not looking the right places, or there are attachments not being shown.

Thank you! That's a lot of great information!

    Best sprayer for 50 vines?

Looking to upgrade from 2 gal. hand pump sprayer next year. I would love a pull behind ATV with booms (small) just to stay further away from the spray, but they seem larger and more expensive than needed. One of the dolly models instead perhaps with a chargeable battery? Tell me your favorites!

I have not soil tested yet. Sounds like I need to. Do you think a petiole test is warranted?

inconsistent fruit set vine to vine

Looking for a little direction.....this is a cluster from my 5 year old Marquette in Northern Ohio. About 60% of my vines have beautiful, full clusters and 40% look like this. Any thoughts on directions to head with this? Nutrients? Pruning? Other? I happened last year too and I blamed...

    2019 marquette flavor

My 2018 just started making me really happy around April of this year. Two vintages in, I'm finding about the 1 1/2 year mark is time to starting drinking it. I never made wine until I grew my own Marquette, and I was elated/heartbroken, rinse, repeat for the whole first year and half...

    Newbie

Yep, good advice, Rice_Guy. I found that out the hard way! I did go ahead with the traditional fungicides last year, so apparently I'm a tree hugger until my wine grapes are threatened. Then it's just war. :)

    Newbie

I am a beginner, with my first home grown vintage of Marquette now in the bottle (2018). It was year 3 for my vines and I got 118 lbs. off 16 vines even after cutting off lots of bunches with black rot. Being a tree hugger, I tried to see how it would perform with no spray. I did not see...

    Incomplete MLF

Thanks, all! I wanted to followup, since I did just hear from the lab. They just sent me the tech sheet for the winescan panel. I wish this would have been on the description page when I ordered it. Looks like the scan, while having good ranges for most of the tests, is limited in the malic...

    Incomplete MLF

Sounds like a good plan. Given my slight OCD (or is it dogged persistence? :) I'll keep poking around the issue to figure it out. Still waiting for some reply from the lab. I'll give a shout if I hear back from them. Thanks!

Same grapes and same ML bac. I know what you mean about the numbers matching. Seems unlikely. I pitched as soon as primary finished. I do not have access to chrome, I have also email lab and questioned them.

    Incomplete MLF

Thanks for the help! I'm feeling better about it. The Lodi test is a new one they have called "winescan". FTIR is the method listed and when I look that up, it's infrared scanning. $40 for the panel, which seemed like a bargain....perhaps for a reason?! I think I will trust the fact that...
