Apple wine kit...have you ever seen this?

Apple wine kit...have you ever seen this?
When I went to rack this apple wine kit for the first time, this is what it looked like at the bottom. It looked like a big thick sponge. I have never seen this with any other kit before. Has anyone else seen this??- Dee1961
