    My first bottling

The red Portuguese floor model, new. I’ll take another look at the bottles and at the first corks (threw them in drawer). Is it possible the corker is damaging the bottoms of the corks when it compresses them?

    My first bottling

No, I used fresh ones (softened in warm water for a few minutes). One bottle had a few cork crumbs from the first cork that I didn’t remove tho. -Scott

    My first bottling

@BigDaveK yes already have plans to increase the anise hyssop plantation, got seed in for meadowsweet, got some cranberry stolons, and wondering about capturing milkweed floral essence. I bet thats on your list already! Basement storage might be an issue, the lights are often on and there’s a...

My new self made Wine rack

Yes, inspiring rack, and some serious R/C in the backgrounds ( an airplane tail and a suspended tugboat or trawler?). Bravo!

    My first bottling

Aw who am I kidding? I’ve already got gooseberries in the back yard, elderberry cuttings rooting, paw paws in pots to overwinter and have just volunteered to help tend a couple of beehives :)

    My first bottling

No worries, I’ll have to rack my first 5 gallon soon and had already been thinking about maybe using CO2 to move it, but the vacuum pump idea is great. I have a couple of little air compressors around and one has a vacuum fitting and gauge (salvaged from a flow cytometer IIRC). Seeing as my wife...

    My first bottling

Yes, using the wand for the first time. I think with practice it’ll get more regular; in the heat of the moment I lifted it too early, and then tried to top up (too much). I didn’t really look from the side either. Live and learn!

Thanks @winemaker81 ! When (if ever?) do you put shrink-wraps on?

    My first bottling

Aw darn, how does this look now?

    My first bottling

I should have taken the time to a) check the actual cork length and b) adjust them all to the same level. Two of them, the internal pressure is pushing them slightly out, can I expect once pressure stabilizes, these can be pushed all the way down & will stay there? This is my first gallon ever...

    5 gal wood barrel recommendation?

Oh I’m a total newbie making my first 1 gallon mead trials, about to set up a 5 gallon. I got some french medium toast cubes to try out, and reading about barrels and the volumes you’d need to move through them to keep them in good shape. I’m too small scale for it to make any sense.

    5 gal wood barrel recommendation?

Does anyone have hands on experience with Red Head Barrels? I’ve been eyeing their offerings, but don’t know how their pricing compares to other new sources… Red Head Oak Barrels

    My trip to Mexico

Not to resurrect a slumbering thread, but today while out to buy some used carboys I noticed a lot of teasels by the side of the road. Idly thinking of a @BigDaveK challenge, started reading if teasel had any flavor or herbalist uses. Then came here to search & see if Big DaveK had already made...

How to Make HOMEMADE WINE Like Farmers in Italy

No added yeast right, just what was present on the grapes or in the tank?
