    method to kill trees

They are also used to attach copper flashing for pressure treated decks with the new copper based preservative treatments. If regular nails are used it causes a reaction and the flashing will be eaten up sooner.

How much grapes do I need?

What variety of grapes are you planning on using? There is a large variation on yield by variety. Reds yield more in general because they are fermented on the skins before pressing so that can increase yield. Ranges can go from 12 to 20 pounds per gallon finished wine depending on variety and...

    method to kill trees

Copper is used as a micro-nutrient and very small amounts of it can be beneficial. The copper nails overdose the tree on copper as it is toxic to all living things in large quantities. Copper sprays are considered organic but they can be just as deadly to all living things as the most toxic...

    method to kill trees

The glyphosate needs to be taken up by an actively growing portion of the plant such as leaves and won't be taken in by the trunk or shoots that are hardened. Never heard of root to root transfer of it so I believe you would be safe.

For those of you interested in Cold Climate grapes, a final Summary Report has been published in the Appellation Cornell News. This summarizes seven years of data collected on the Cold Climate Variety Trial I took part in for a number of years. I worked as a Cornell employee during the time I...

    method to kill trees

I know glyphosate (Roundup and others) is not currently popular with many people, but most trees like that can be killed (including roots and underground rhizome type roots) by cutting the tree down and paining some glyphosate full strength onto the freshly cut stump. It is drawn into the roots...

    Question about grape vine

See the anthers marked in the same original picture blown up. I believe the original poster was seeing the stem part of the anthers(filament).

    Question about grape vine

Here is a picture of a perfect grape flower (contains both male and female flower parts. What I believe is shown in the original picture is the flower anthum or male flower part where the pollen parts have fallen off because the flower has pollinated.

    trimming cabernet vines around clusters

Krafty are you training them to a VSP system like shown in the first picture? If so the clusters generally will form at the bottom of the shoot so are easy to expose with leaf pulling. If they aren't trained nicely with evenly spaced shoots it is much harder to expose them.

avoiding winter kill of Frontenac on TWC?

Taking six years to get Frontenac onto a training system is really unheard of. You should be able to train them in two or three years and get good production in three or four years. They should definitely survive those temperatures but may not ripen totally if the frost free period is too short.

What is wrong with my grapes

That could be the problem then Greg. Phomopsis and black rot are both early developing diseases when not sprayed early enough. Generally when shoots reach 3-5 inches you should begin a protective program. It is easier to prevent than eliminate later. Even if that isn't what those vines have...

What is wrong with my grapes

Have you applied a fungicide yet? The damage looks similar to some phomopsis infection. I don't see a lot of stem damage yet but some looks to be there. The look of the leaves looks a lot like phomopsis foliar damage. There are a number of effective sprays for phomopsis and black rot. It could...

Second Year of Plantation Starting. How to prune?? Help please!

Remember you are growing in an environment strange to may of us in the US. Hard to tell if they will size up a lot more or not. Remember these are pretty young vines and the clusters are large so they may not get to normal full size. I think you have done a great job overall growing where they...

    In Memory of Tom

Tom was not only a very fine winemaker but an accomplished home brewer. He kept a constant supply of beer in his kegerator so when others visited he could share his handiwork. That carried over to the forum where he selflessly shared his crafts and knowledge. We have certainly missed his...

    Grow tube questions

I have found the few time I tried grow tubes that the flowers did not set very well inside the tubes so weren't a big issue. As far as spray control inside the tube, just put the sprayer nozzle end close enough to give it a quick shot inside. If it is just a few ragged leaf edges you are better...
