    Ready for Snowmageddon??

The snow has mostly ended here now and I think we got right around 24 inches- maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less. The news says Morrisonville where I am at got 32 inches and maybe it is. Hard to tell with it all blowing around. I haven't gone out into it yet so I haven't got great pictures yet...

    Ready for Snowmageddon??

I am not going out in this to take pictures. You couldn't see anything if I did. Only about 6 inches so far in 3 or so hours but the wind is up to almost 30 mph with higher expected. Visibility is about 100 feet and going down quickly. Expecting another 8 inches by midnight and another 8 to 12...

    Mathematicians out there

Ok I have been watching all day and haven't seen one mention of the most revered day for all the mathematicians out there. We need this every year. I mean where would we be without Pi day? As a way to celebrate it I think we should have cake not pie. I mean most celebrations have cake, not...

    Petite pearl

Unfortunately the wine shipping laws are getting worse all the time instead of better as everyone claims. Unless you are a huge winery the states don't want you shipping around that much. Believe it or not, I got a letter from UPS today claiming I have shipped wine to New York State without an...

Thanks so much CTDrew. Getting closer to reality. Now we just have to weather the weather the next day or so.

    Petite pearl

The first time I made Marquette in 2006 it did not turn out very good and I almost passed on it as a variety. I'm glad I gave it another try because with just a bit of a different process it has turned out to be a great seller.

    Ready for Snowmageddon??

Well it looks like the weather has improved its aim on us. Blizzard warning takes effect in about an hour and lasts until Wed evening. Storm total now around 2 feet or so...............I hope they are wrong again.

Unfortunately no. The transactions all go through PayPal who does all the processing for nothing. Since it is a loan that is repaid the money goes back through PayPal. The site exists to help people get loans where they normally can't and I never get unwanted mail from them. I have given small...

    Ready for Snowmageddon??

We are looking for it starting Tuesday morning and into Wed. I'm hoping it stays east and south of us as it looks right now. Predicting 5 to 8 here. That's enough for me. It has been another very light snow year for us only plowing twice. Last year I only plowed once. Stay home, stay safe...

Friends and colleagues I am reaching out to you today to personally invite you to help crowdfund a project I am working on here at Hid-In-Pines Vineyard. Normally I would never ask for your help and instead am proud to offer help to you in either winemaking or grape growing however a couple...

    old vine pruning

He is somewhere between 6b and 7b in Conway Arkansas or thereabouts. It could be Muscadine. That was my initial thought. It also could be an overgrown Concord from the looks of it.

    old vine pruning

Yup. It needs a good haircut. Try and stub back most of the shoots leaving a few inches and drag it all out. Look at what is left trying to make sense of it. Try and figure out a main trunk, a couple nice cordons for the main structure and prune away a lot of extra stuff to bring it back close...

    Northern grapes

In general those grapes allow you to grow grapes where it is too cold for vinifera grapes. They can make some very nice wine but in general have 2 to 3 times the amount of acid in them over vinifera. Marquette and LaCrescent are easier to work with than Frontendac but they all have their own...

    Pine Straw?

Using enough pine needles to be effective at keeping weeds out would likely result in lowering your soil pH. I am not sure if it would be enough to be detrimental or not.

    OK, So who's with me????

Everyone needs to realize that this forum is made up of people of all faiths and we generally don't want to bring religion into general discussions as it can lead to disputes between those faiths. Maybe everyone needs to step back to the original discussion here on who wants to join John in...
