    Temperature Control

Oh, and I failed to mention that I also incorporate a thermowell, so I am measuring the temperature of my must, and not the ambient temp.

    Temperature Control

For my reds, I use a large cardboard box (22"x22"x24") with a small 15-Watt light bulb attached to the inside. I monitor and regulate my temp with an Inkbird temp controller I bought for $35 on Amazon. This way, as heat is generated from the AF itself, my controller will shut off the light bulb...

    DangerDave's Dragon Blood Wine

Just a thought, but perhaps that “option” isn't available because it is a frozen item, and Walmart is interpreting your intent as an online order? Have you actually looked for it in-store? If you have, and they simply don’t carry it, that’s a bummer cuz that juice really improved the...

    Michigan Cab Franc Grapes

Thank you, I’ll try to contact them as well. And yes, Cab Franc does quite well up in Traverse City. Had one at Black Star Farms that was VERY good, IMHO!

Ok, thanks for the lead! I'll look into these.

    Michigan Cab Franc Grapes

I am considering my first attempt at making wine from grapes, after now having a dozen kits under my belt. I have been "in love" with Cab Franc for some time now, and living in Michigan, I would think I could get fresh grapes from one of the wineries in the Traverse City area. Does anyone have...

    DangerDave's Dragon Blood Wine

Great, thx! I’ve been thinking of doing a BB wine, so why not use the Dragon Blood template?!

    DangerDave's Dragon Blood Wine

Awesome idea! Have you made a BB Dragon Blood before? How many lbs of fruit did you use for this batch?

Sounds like things are coming along nicely for you with this batch. I’ve taken your advice and have left my 2 batches to sit another week on the Sparkalloid to clear. I am planning to test my TA tomorrow, as I have purchased some .1N Sodium Hydroxide and will use that in conjunction with my pH...

    Dragon Blood-High SG

Ok, thank you. Good luck with this batch, and thank you for the link. I'm going to pick this kit up, and start doing things right! :-)

Wildhair: I have 3 more days left with my suggested 1 week clearing after adding the Sparkaloid. It's looking very clear already, but I will be back sweetening both batches at the same time in the trash can, and would like to follow what you had done with your DB in Feb/2018. You added 4 cans...

Thx! Sounds like a plan, except I personally do not have a means by which to test for TA. Perhaps use the "mouthfeel/taste" method, and add small amounts of CC til it feels adequate? I do have a digital Ph meter, though.

Thank you Wilhair. Yes, I plan to rack them both today after work. Question: I want to make sure that both batches are the same before I bottle (later, of course). I have ordered a 20-gallon Rubbermaid Brute trash can from Home Depot ($24) which will be here in a few days. Will I just be...

Thank you. And yes, there is definitely an upside to this blunder. I think it's gonna be a great summer on the deck!

    Dragon Blood-High SG

Actually, I meant the pectic enzymes doing all of the fruit breakdown, not the yeast!

Thought I'd follow up, maybe ease the minds of any one else who has misread recipes, lol! After splitting my original batch and creating 2 batches going at the same time, things have progressed nicely. Both batches were down .998 & 1.000 respectively, so removed the fruit bags. This was my...
