Other Looking for a suggestions for a good Amarone wine kit

Haven't tried that one but RJS EN Primeur Italian Amerone or their EP Amerone Classico are both excellent.

    Other Newbie wine kit question.

I've done this kit twice, checked my notes, and don't see any mention of 2 packets. I'd probably follow the instructions, add one and save the other. @She’sgonnakillme approach is also solid. And enjoy the wine. I'm not a big white drinker but this kit makes a great one.

    Ground Cherry - Wow!

Thanks for that info. I'm beginning to think you're right. I do have plenty of pigweed but it looks slightly different. I'm leaning now toward it being black nightshade. I'll know soon enough, a few small flowers are forming. Just in case, I've ordered more seed which I'll start indoors so I...

    Ground Cherry - Wow!

Slow is right. My tallest ones are about 5" tall and were planted 1st of May. The other thing is that they are showing up in the oddest places--only a handful are where they were originally planted. I've got some that just germinated in the last week, so these plants are definitely not for the...

    Ground Cherry - Wow!

I planted some New Hanover Ground Cherries, and wondered if anyone can tell me if this small plant is one of them. It's got purplish tint on the back side of the leaf. Thanks. Tagging @BigDaveK @ChuckD @Kross since this thread has been quiet for awhile.

    Other Tweeking Cheap Kits

For the cheap kits I've stayed with the ec1118 that is included. On my real grapes (frozen grape musts), juice buckets, and fruit wines I've just started experimenting with different yeasts. I've used D254, Red Star Premier Rouge, and for a cab Sauvignon I had two buckets so used BM4x4 in one...

    Other Tweeking Cheap Kits

@GretchenR I used the recipe you listed using blackberries, and also a cheap Malbec with Zante currants--both to 5 gallons. These are two of my favorite "easy drinkers." Sadly I'm almost out of both so have two more in the works where I'm experimenting with making full 6 gallons for...

    Post your labels here

Nice. Never thought I would like Blackberry wine because I’m not a big fan of blackberries but the Finer Wines Blackberry sold me.

    Post your labels here

@vinny I like them a lot. Very classy looking. I prefer the ones with some color, and wouldn't hesitate to slap any of them on my bottles. That said, it sounds like you still have time before bottling, and you must enjoy the creative process, so I'd try even more ideas. When it's no longer fun...

    Other FWK Blackberry

I used approximately 1-1/3 bags according to my notes. I like how they include enough sweetener to match most anyone's preference. We tasted before adding the last 1/3.

    WineXpert Beginning to tweak Chardonnay

And as far as grapefruit zest, my understanding has been 1/2 grapefruit zest for a 5 or 6 gallon kit. Probably scale down accordingly for a 1 gallon batch.

    Other FWK Blackberry

We did this kit following the instructions to a T and it turned out fantastic for us.

    Juicing Rhubarb

After studying this site and other books, I was convinced to stick with EC118. I did read where one guy was told Lalvin 71B was best because it lowers the acidity and ferments slowly at 65, but others had problems with stuck fermentations so I used EC1118 and had no problems. Yeastyboy reported...

    Juicing Rhubarb

I've not seen a recipe for a rhubarb/strawberry blend, but Jack Keller and others have suggested making both wines separately, then doing bench trials to see what percentages taste best to you. This is my first rhubarb wine so @Rice_Guy and others have been guiding me through it. I'd be...

    Juicing Rhubarb

I just pressed 35# of frozen then thawed rhubarb. This yielded 4 gallons of juice. I didn't add any sugar to the thawed rhubarb. The press was a smallish hydro-press.

Post a Meme, any Meme! (no politics)

If you were young-ish when Days of Wine & Roses was released UB mid to upper 60's now. 😁 Anyone else have a wine song reference?

    Rhubarb wine - newest batch

@Rice_Guy did you back sweeten with straight sugar or simple syrup? How long to age it before drinking? My juice only version has been in the carboy for 2 months so far. Still need to adjust the acid a bit (it's at 3.3 now and you had suggested trying to get it to 3.5).

    Thinking outside the box

I did a Wine Lovers Malbec Medium Bodied (11.5%) shorted to 5 gallons, added 1 Cup of Zante Currants, 1 T of tannins, and 1 Cup of French oak in primary. Target was 13% ABV which I may have overshot by a little, but it was very tasty early. I don't believe I would short the water on an RJS...
