    Muscadine pruning and trellis system

Hey Tod, nicely done. I don't have the time or drive to trim each fruiting spur as you did so now I use a hedge trimmer. I went from 3 days to 1/2 a day trimming mine but they don't look as nice as yours.

    Citrus tree identification

That looks like a trifoliate orange. It can be used as a grafting root stock for most if not all citrus plants.

    when good wines gone bad

Yep, a liquere about the same as triple sec. Good for straight drinking or to make a marguerita.

Just made a batch of COINTREAU using the zest of oranges, limes and grapefruit ...awsome!

    when good wines gone bad

This is the time of the year here in the south when the citrus is ripe and this lasts for about 2 months. Just was wondering if the zest of this fruit can be frozen for later use. I'm not ready to start a batch of wine at this time but it sure would be nice to have the zest on hand when needed.

    Wine in a Beer Bottle

These work great, I've been using them for years. No corks to buy and easily resealable. The biggest drawback is most only hold 16oz.

    new house - backyard trellis??

Functional, well maybe but decorative absolutely. A back yard swing with a frame or trellis over it makes a nice showing. Sitting in the swing with grapes suspended above make be a great conversation piece. The big draw back is when it comes time for pruning.

    new house - backyard trellis??

You may end up having to brace the fence. You'd be surprised by how much weight the vines and fruit will add.

    Blackberry bitterness

You will avoid the bitterness if you steam juice the berries. Use only the juice and discard the gunk left over. 2 3/4 gals. of this juice is required for a 5 gal. batch.

Pulled up my muscadines and need new suggestions

Carlos is the muscadine of choice for the wineries around Baton Rouge area with welder coming in a close second. I've recently added those varieties to my small vineyard. Darlene, pam and pineapple are fine for fresh eating but lack the intense flavor that I desire in wine.

    Blackberry varities

Cut all shoots to the ground after the fruiting season. This is the recommendation from the LSU Ag. center.

    pictures of pruned grapes

Make a number of wrappings around a bucket to form them into a wreath. After decorating a bit, they make nice door decorations for the holidays.

    Banana wine

I cut the ends off but that was it. I washed them thoroughly before anything else. Set them somewhere cool and allow them to turn brown and mushy then slice into waffers and boil with a little water until they have disintergrated. Use everything including the water for your batch. [B]Do not...

    Banana wine

Using the peel as well as the flesh gives a much stronger banana flavor. Did you use toasted pecans and how much did you use? I've made pecan liquere that is to die for.

    Blackberry varities

I got mine from the friend in Laf. as a gift... he doesn't sell them. He got his from Roy Young Nursery in Abbeville some years ago. They usually have a fairly good selection and a lot of their plants come from Ison's.

    Blackberry varities

Triple crown is by far the worse one of the bunch. It performs well up around Georgia but I think our heat and humidity are too much for it. I also have the chickasaw and it's just an OK variety for me. However a friend in Laf. has a u-pick-um of chickasaw and kiowa and they perform really...
