    Racking From Large Fermenter

But I did build a GHP this weekend, and it worked like a charm!! Only scooping I had to do was for the remaining skins going into press. Thanks to everyone for all their advise!! Greatly appreciated.

    Racking From Large Fermenter

I've done the same in the past. Racked what i could, then scooped the rest. One-man show here as well! But enough wine for an army..... go figure....

    2019 Glen Cellars Vintage

That's the way it should be! I live in Toronto, and one of the brands of grapes that is readily available here is 'Top Brass'. From what i understand, they are a mid-line grape, picked early with the focus being on moving tonnage...... The wine is okay, but i am excited from some premium...

@Boatboy24, i see you used PVC, which i believe is better than ABS. I believe ABS contains BPA, which I don't like the idea of..... Seems like PVC is the better choice???

    Racking From Large Fermenter

Hey @Johnd, what material is your GHP 4" water pipe made from?? Is it PVC? I was looking at some of the ABS piping and it was pretty nicked up...... Was just concerned what type of risk that could pose from a bacterial standpoint. They keep telling us not to stack our pails to keep them from...

    2019 Glen Cellars Vintage

Brix started off at 20.5 so i had to add some sugar. I did leave them overnight to soak a bit with some enzymes, and the Brix increase by half a degree. I have some premium Californian Cab Sauv & Syrah coming in 2 weeks, so i expect the natural sugars to be much higher. Can't wait!

By the way @Johnd I'm extremely impressed in how precise you drilled a gajillion holes...… You've even off-set them. Great job!

    Racking From Large Fermenter

The "Gajillion Hole Pipe"!!!! That's exactly what I need! So simple and brilliant, yet game changing! Last year I drilled a gajillion holes into a soda pop bottle and used that to siphon. But as the holes got plugged and the pressure increased, the bottle caved it. This is amazing, thank...

    Racking From Large Fermenter

Hope everyone is excited for the new harvest! And that your winemaking plans well underway! I wanted to ask how everyone drains their wine from their large fermenters (5 gal buckets don't count...). I have a 200L drum i ferment it, and have used a racking cane to siphon in the past. But...

    pH in Sour Cherry Wine

Ok Ok great! I will let it run as is for now and see how things progress. Will post updates as I get them.

    pH in Sour Cherry Wine

Ok awesome! So i will pitch the yeast (using EC-111) and see where we end up once we are finished in primary. I'll test when racking to secondary and see how we are looking. I'm finding it difficult to test by taste, as the juice is very sweet..... so i can't really tell. But once the...
