    Moldy Corks?

I don't remember where I got the corks - most likely Amazon. I need to keep better track of those types of details. If it is the corks, that would be a relief. I just bottled 4 cases using corks from the brew supply shop, but composite like the above. Will be bottling my high-quality wine in a...

    Moldy Corks?

Okay, I'm going to refresh this thread. Happened to me for a rose I opened last night. Bottled around 6 months ago. Wine was fine, cork was not. You can see that the mold hasn't reached the wine part, yet. I'm going to open another bottle and see if it's a unique occurance, or whether I might...

First batch of wine from grapes

"Enjoy the smells of wine as it progresses." Opened up the garage door this morning to punch down and the a waft of grapes hit me from 10 feet away. My, it is marvelous!

    2019 Grape Season

Went and got 400lbs of Merlot yesterday, you-pick. Back-breaking work. Once again, reminded that I don't really want to own a vineyard. Need to wait a bit for the Petit Verdot to be ready. Swinging by the local brew shop to check on my Chardonnay connection. Also connected with a local winemaker...

You know it’s harvest season when...

I learned the hard way last year. Everything is in the fridge because of humidity. Nothing like trying to stab solidified yeast nutrient out of a bottle b.c. the home brew store is closed on Sunday night...

    Is there a better way?

I'm still in the infancy of my hobby, so I'll take any/all bottle donations. I soak in hot water, scrape off with knife, use green scrubber and dish soap for remaining residue. I toss any bottles that have stubborn labels. Some use god-strength glue - I don't know what it is - but it's a mess to...

    What R you doing today?

The sugar content of the grapes - they're not quite ready to harvest yet. But.... almost!

    What R you doing today?

Doing a happy dance! My yeasts and ML came in the mail yesterday - This fall planning on Merlot, Petite Verdot, Peach, Strawberry, Apricot, and Apple. Now just waiting - oh so patiently - for the brix to rise!

New vineyard and new to forum - SW Virginia

Welcome! I'm so inspired by your story! Love that you're doing it while working and then planning on FT when you transition! I'm playing with that dream as well - tho retirement is a ways off!

Thanks, NorCal - I've been fretting over the filter quality. Am keeping things topped up, and sanitized. Haven't had wine go bad yet, but haven't been keeping it for more than a year. The All in One said filters are single use. I purchased several to get me through bottling - do you think it's...

So I got the AIO - going to be trying it out today. Also go the filter setup, excited to try it on my apple wine that's ready to bottle. Also got a crusher destemmer off of Craigslist. I know I was only looking at 1 piece of equipment, but it's Craigslist, so... This piece of equipment is a...

New to Wine Making - Problems with Fruit Wines

Concur with the adding additional camden tablets throughout the secondary ferment. I re-dose every 3 months and re-rack when I do. I also boil my city water before adding it to my fruit batches.

First time with red grapes-Making Plans

OH! NorCal! Like Christmas in July - TY for the spreadsheet. Grabbed it and added it to my drive. Was just up your way over the July 4 holiday. Tons of little wineries tucked into the foothills. Hadn't been that way in 20 years - really nice vibe.

    2019 Grape Season

Question: Are all of these from your cellar? Or are some commercial wines you turn to when needed? I've been topping off my first grape harvest (Merlot) with a commercial cab for the past year and I'm really liking it. And I know I should plan on saving some of the final product for next...

Hi All, So this harvest I'm going to be making my first big equipment purchase. Exciting! Quick check for understanding with all you experts: 1. An all-in-one pump degasses - really helpful for kits, not necessarily for wine made for grapes, but doesn't filter (I may be incorrect with this...
