    hydrometer

The container my hydrometer came in has this information printed on an included paper which was printed front and back and that is the reason for both pics. Anyway, it explains quite clearly , where I marked with brackets, how to calculate your alcohol content.

    Never again!

I agree with MrKevin I tied a cheesecloth on end of racking cane and racked from 1 carboy to another without any problems or delays........... the oak was dumped out of bag directly into the must at beginning of fermentation. Worked fine.

    My version of the enolmatic

The tube lengths I went with jamesngalveston are 9" bottom and 15" top, but I want to say those lengths are not set in stone, you can make those longer if you might have extra tall bottles. I don't use large bottles just regular 750 ml bottles so this setup gives me the height I need along with...

    My version of the enolmatic

jamesngalveston .......1" square tube on top and 1 1/4" square tube on bottom, along with a 6" wide x 1/4" thick flat bar, 12" long for the base. A cut to shape piece of cork glued to the base to give a nice cushion for the bottles. Yes, with a mig welder, good eye. :)

    My version of the enolmatic

Looking at pictures of peoples bottle filler they made I decided to order the nozzle and made one for my use at home. I used it for the first time this week at bottling time. I both filtered the wine using whole house and bottled directly at same time. It went very well. This was all a...

    My new rack

I know them as screens. 4" squares. We use the material underground and bolt it to the ceilings and walls and the screen will catch and hold small material that may fall off preventing it from hurting anyone. I used 1' x 1/8" thick flatbar for the brackets. I decided on how wide to space...

    My new rack

Congratulations on your wood wine rack it is very nice. I made 2 wine racks here at home in my garage lately but out of screen mesh and I like them. I saw an advertisement for that style and decided to build the 2 myself as they were inexpensive doing it yourself. I now have over 400 spaces...

    Any stock investors here?

Yes Rocky I agree that during one's life there are road bumps, personal or otherwise, along the way. We all have some. Myself, being a tradesman in the mining industry the world markets for nickel and copper, the primary products of the company I worked for went thru good and terrible price...

    Any stock investors here?

Following and reading here made me decide to add to what I said earlier. My girlfriend and I, (wife now since Aug. 1980) when I was 21 and she 19 (35 years ago) opened up what was called then an "Ontario Home Ownership Savings Plan". (no longer available) It was set up to allow Ontarians a way...

    My First Glass (unofficial)

Yes Jericurl it was and I have to laugh when you mentioned how you would just watch the wine ferment, I did the very same thing. I would just go and watch the batch and see how it was going along and quite often too. I would say most people here did the same with their first wines. I will...

    My First Glass (unofficial)

Hello Medic8106, Congratulations. I know the excitement you feel with your very first wine. I opened a bottle of wine this past Saturday which is from my first kit. I had friends over and we all shared in tasting the wine, which very happily for me everyone enjoyed. It was a kit wine and...
