I just gave away a couple of bottles. Since I just started making wine this year I didn't have much that was ready to drink. I don't trust my friends to wait until it is ready so I'll keep it in my cellar for now. Next year will be a different story.:b

I'm not sure about that one. The hydrometer is essentially a glass float with a weight at the bottom to ensure that it floats upright and give it the correct buoyancy. What it is weighted with I'm not sure. But, if it's lead you wouldn't want to be drinking it.

My initial reading was 1.080. It could be that your hydrometer is difficult to read or that you didn't stir the kit enough before taking your reading. Either way, I'm sure it will be fine and the ABV should come in around 10.5 %. I think you'll enjoy this one.

I just bottled this one. I'm impressed. For a 10 litre kit (plus 2 litres of grape skins) it turned out very nice. I look forward to drinking this one in about six months.

I made this one just a few months ago. I think it will be really good after it ages. I thought it tasted pretty good at bottling time. I don't think I should wait too long before getting another batch going.

I had the same problem. When it went into the carboy I had almost a litre left over. I wish I had saved it for the next racking. I ended up using almost a bottle of Malbec that I had. Then, when I bottled it I had a wee bit left. That disappeared quite quickly and we're already looking...

For the difference in price I'd just go for the floor cork. For one thing, as others have mentioned, it allows you to use better corks. As they say... To die poor is unfortunate, to leave a lot of money is stupid! :db:b
