I thought it was clear - Red

Is there a fool proof way to know a Red has cleared? I tried lights and just hold a glass to the sun and thought my Cab Sav had cleared. But.... When I added some bentonite, without 24 hours, it looks like it dropped an inch of sediment from what I thought was a clear Red. I could be wrong...

How to make Chard more "buttery"

I thought the reason to not put a kit through MLF because the kits had already been acid balanced and it would throw off the PH. Assuming that's the main reason, if someone wanted a buttery wine made from a kit, couldn't someone just put their kit through MLF then add acid back once it's...

Apple wine - needs more acid

Thanks folks! I've got acid blend and citric at home. Guess I'll need to order some malic.

What is causing the change in Specific Gravity?

This is a guess and it's assuming you're not miss reading what you're seeing... 1st hydrometer is actually measuring the density of the liquid, not just the sugar level. It seems like your must is separating.. and something thicker is moving to the top, causing the hydrometer to float...

    My First Bottling!

How many cases on a pallet? At the rate I keep making wine, I think I'm going to need a pallet of bottles... BTW, I', guessing 36 cases to a pallet?

    My First Bottling!

Nice looking bottle! If I didn't know you made it at home, I would have thought it was store bought. BTW, how do you like the Wine Label Wizard? I'm having a heck of a time trying to eyeball my labels.

Apple wine - needs more acid

I'm trying to finish up my 2nd go at Apple wine. The 1st time, it was just apple juice and sugar to get the abv. But because it ended up being too light for my liking, I decided to give it another try. My 2nd batch, I added 2 bananas per gallon of apple juice. I also sliced up 6 granny smith...

Is my wine fermenting? And is this floating stuff a problem?

If you get more sediment, rack it again. As for adding Kmeta, use the 3 month rule, unless you have to equipment to test the level. When you're ready to bottle, make sure to add sobate since you'll be sweetening it up some... and depending on when the last time you added Kmeta, you might...

Other "Wine Lovers" kit on Amazon

Do you know what size kits were purchased? It seems the offer kits from 4.2 liters to 16 liters. Their 4 and 5 liter kits look to be low ABV.

    Wine kits

I was googling wine kits today and the best deal I saw was from wine lovers. They're currently running a sale of 15% off and free shipping. My only fear is that I have never heard of them, so have no idea on quality other than some reviews on their site and Amazon.

    Brew kettle for primary?

I've got an 8 gallon SS brew kettle for beer. Is there any reason why I shouldn't use it as a primary fermentation vessel? Thanks!

    Miracle Wine Kit?

I don't know how much sugar was in the concentrate. You have to add a ton of sugar to get it to where you want it..

    Miracle Wine Kit?

Update on the Sav Blanc... IT SUX! I just went down to taste test it and it's not like any Sav Blanc I've ever tasted. The bites gone and it's got a weird aftertaste. Also it's buttery tasting. It's just weird. I'm going to bottle it and see what others think of it.

how long for yeast to die, if ever?

Are you saying to use sterile filter or possibly pasteurization versus sorbet?

how long for yeast to die, if ever?

I guess I'm going to have to keep using sobate.. or upgrade to a 0.45 absolute filter..

how long for yeast to die, if ever?

I was just wondering, since wine usually gets better with age. Let's say you'r bulk aging a wine.. how long will it take for the yeast to go dormant then eventually just die on their own? Is 6 months, a year long enough, or will sorbate or some other way always be need to make sure a...

    Question on first batch

If you added a gallon of apple juice, you fermentation is going to start up again. Basically, you'll now need to wait for the fermentation to stop again.. Sure there's a few ways to get it to stop fermentation now, but I wouldn't suggest doing it as a beginner. So here's what you're going to...

    Sugars

I have no idea how it might make it taste, but molasses will definitely leave a taste. I'm guessing like molasses, but actual taste may vary depending on how much you add and what type of wine it is.
